Hotspot while on roaming

I have 200GB plan (190GB left in my billing cycle). I am currently travelling in Europe.

I am paying daily roaming fees. My phone has access to the cell network (I can make and receive calls). I can also browse internet on my phone.

I can’t share my phone’s internet to my laptop (tethering/hotspot).

My laptop connects to my iPhone’s hotspot, WiFi connection is established on my laptop BUT no internet is shared to my laptop!

Why?

Good Day & Welcome to the Bell Community Forum.

In order to assist you further, we need for you to provide us with additional information. This is a community website. As such, we do not have access to your account, billing & equipment information.

Does your Bell plan include Hotspot capabilities? (Please verify that your plan includes Hotspot.) If so, then you should be able to also Hotspot Roaming Better.

Where you will encounter issues & additional charges will be related to cell calls, data usage, that is not using Hotspot. E.g. calls, texts, messaging, videos, etc.

What is the make & model of your mobile device & your laptop? Have you verified that the iOS / OS on both devices are up to date? Have you powered both devices Off > On. Have you verified your Hotspot password & tried to reset your Hotspot on your mobile phone?

Have you checked your laptop user manual?

Take care.

Hey there @Demagu

Welcome to the community and thanks for your post.

After a quick search, I was able to find a few tips that other Mac users have tried when faced with a similar situation;

  • Try to connect by turning the Bluetooth off on your mac. If already off, try turning it on.
  • Turn Airdrop on and off.
  • Instead of going to Wi-Fi in settings, connect from the control center in the upper right.

Others have stated the following;

  1. Connect to your hotspot
  2. Go to System settings > Network > Details (of the connected device)
  3. Select TCP/IP and change Configure IPv6 to "Automatically"

Give those a try and keep the community updated on the results.

Iphone 15 Pro with Macbook Pro M4. OS for both is newest and greatest. Both devices were restarted. I also went ahead and reset networking settings on both devices.

I can tether (hotspot) while in Canada no problem.

Good Day & Welcome.

Yes, you can use your smartphone as a mobile hotspot (tethering) while using a Bell Global 365-day Travel Pass, as long as your phone is capable of it. The data included in your rate plan is used to power the hotspot.

Travel Passes include unlimited calling and texting within your destination and back to Canada, plus access to the data from your rate plan.
