Paying double accidentally

I usually pay automatically on my credit card, but prepaid my bill a few days earlier, on line, with another card.

I was more than a little surprised to see that Bell ALSO charged my credit card for the same bill. Yippee, according to my account, I now have a credit with them. Why give me the option to pay, when you plan to Hoover the cash from my credit card anyway?

An utterly stupid company, at times.

I suppose I could call and straighten it out, but prefer not spending weekend time in an “unusually” long holding pattern.

Good Day.

If you overpaid your bill in error & it has already been processed by your credit card company or financial institution & Bell has received this payment, your overpayment will appear as a credit in the My bill section in your MyBell account.

Did you discuss this matter with a Bell Customer Service representative? What information did the service representative provide to you?

Was this a credit card of financial institution overpayment? Did you service representative explain how an overpayment such as this is handled? Did you request to speak to a manager at the time of your discussion with Bell Canada?

Bell did not make a mistake. If you overpaid your account, Bell will credit your account upon receipt of this overpayment. Once Bell receives your payment, you can verify  your credit by logging in to your  MyBell account. On the main screen you will see My Bill in the blue shaded box area. On the right side of the screen, you will see your account balance for all of the services that you have linked to One Bill. You will be able to view a Credit once the overpayment is received.

Should your require further assistance, please contact Bell Customer Service Accounts & Billingl: 1 866 310-BELL (2355) or dial #611 from any Bell mobile device.

Dear Bell Support Team,

My name is Abdirizak Mahamud, and I am a Bell customer. I am writing to bring to your attention an issue regarding duplicate payments for the same billing period.

I was charged $239.01 twice as shown below:

September 09, 2025 – Credit Card – $239.01

September 10, 2025 – Bank Payment – $239.01

Since this is clearly a duplicate payment, I kindly request a refund for one of the transactions.

Please find attached proof of both payments (screenshot/statement) for your reference. I would appreciate it if this matter could be resolved promptly and the overcharged amount refunded to my account.

Thank you for your assistance.

Sincerely,

Good Day & Welcome.

Thank you for reaching out to the Bell Community Forum.

This a peer-to-peer community forum. As such, account billing issues such as an overpayment, refunds or credits cannot be handled on this website.

Bell processes all payments upon receipt. Depending on your method of payment, it can take a minimum of 3-5 business days or more for Bell to receive your payment.

If it has already been processed by your credit card company or financial institution & Bell has received this payment, your overpayment will appear as a credit in the My bill section in your MyBell account.

Bell will apply this overpayment as a credit to your account. This overpayment will show up on MyBell when the funds are received. This credit will be deducted from your next bill.

Note: You will see a CR $ amount credit on your account for the extra payment once Bell receives the funds that you overpaid in error.

To avoid a similar situation from happening in the future, you should verify and / or setup on your MyBell account in the My bill section > Payment options > Pre-authorized payments. This can be done easily & quickly with payments being made from your financial institution or credit card. Once this is set up, then there is no need for you to manually pay your bill each month.

Should you require further assistance, please contact Bell Customer Service Accounts & billing: 1 866 310-BELL (2355) or dial #611 from any Bell mobile device.

Take care.

Am I able to pay my bill early through my online banking rather than waiting for my payment to be withdrawn by pre-authorized debit? If so, is there any penalty? And how long before the withdrawal date can I make the payment in order to be applied to my current bill?

Good Day & Welcome.

You can make a one-time payment at any time online through your bank. There is no penalty.

I do not recommend doing this on a regular monthly basis. Bell will credit your account upon receipt of your one-time bank payment. This in itself will be somewhat difficult for you track manually as it will only show up on your account when Bell receives this payment from your bank.

Do not alter or cancel your pre-authorized payment. If you overpay your account due to this bank payment, your account will be credited the overpayment & it will be applied to your next month's bill. With pre-authorized payments, Bell will take the full amount due on the bill as per the pre-authorized date, whether a manual payment is made or not.

Please refer to the following weblink for step-by-step instructions.

Paying my bill online

  1. Upon logging in to MyBell and accessing your current bill page, select the Pay now button.
  2. Under Other payment options, locate the Through your bank option.
  3. Select Copy to copy the Customer ID number displayed in blue.
  4. Select Pay through your bank.
  5. Select your financial institution.
  6. You will be redirected to your financial institution’s website to add Bell as a payee. You’ll need to provide the Customer ID number that you had copied.

The processing time depends on the payment method, day of the week, time of day, banking institution, business days, etc. I have included the following as a reference for your use:

How long does it take for my Bell payment to be processed?

My bill this month was $67.80. After receiving the payment reminder email, I manually paid the bill. However, I later realized that I had pre-authorized payments set up, and the payment was processed automatically as well, so I was charged twice.

Could you please confirm whether this extra payment will be automatically applied as a credit toward next month’s bill, or if there is anything I need to do?

Thank you

Thank you for your question. Yes, your second payment will be credited on your next bill. There is nothing more you need to do.

@Eason w Bell will apply this overpayment as a credit to your account. This overpayment will show up on MyBell when the funds are received. This credit will be deducted from your next bill.

Note: You will see a CR $ amount credit on your account for the extra payment once Bell receives the funds that you overpaid in error.

Do not alter or cancel your pre-authorized payment. If you overpay your account due to this manual payment, your account will be credited the overpayment & it will be applied to your next month's bill. With pre-authorized payments, Bell will take the full amount due on the bill as per the pre-authorized date, whether a manual payment is made or not.

Hi,

I paid my bill using my credit card, but I also noticed the same amount was taken from my chequing account. Because of this, my account went into overdraft.

Can someone please help me understand why this happened and how it can be fixed?

Thank you!

Good Day & Welcome.

@Mm4 Thank you for posting your question.

Have you setup pre-authorized bill payments on MyBell?

If so, & you make a one-time payment at any time online through your bank or credit card after you have setup preauthorized payments, then this is the reason for this overpayment.

If you overpaid your bill in error & it has already been processed by your credit card company or financial institution, once Bell receives this payment, it will be applied to your account & will appear as a credit in the My bill section in your MyBell account. This credit will be deducted from your next bill.

Do not alter or cancel your pre-authorized payment. With pre-authorized payments, Bell will take the full amount due on the bill as per the pre-authorized date, whether a manual payment is made or not.
