When the Fibe app came out U.S. stations were not availble away from home but CBC Ottawa was availble, whether I was 1km or 100 km, and then it just stopped.

Good Day & Welcome.

Thank you for reaching out and posting your concern.

As my colleague @dks mentioned, "I can't comment on what has happened in the past. I can only attempt to explain how things are in the present."

TV viewing is continually changing. Like everything in life, television is evolving with time. TV is undergoing a massive transformation, shifting from passive, scheduled broadcasting to personalized, streaming-first experiences.

  • Yesterday, today was tomorrow and tomorrow, today will be yesterday.

While CBC isn’t available for you to watch outside your home Wi‑Fi network, you can still access their content through the CBC streaming service: Live TV | Ottawa | CBC Gem

You can also use your PVR to record live shows that you may wish to watch later on.

Take care

I understand that licensing restrictions impact which stations are available on Fibe TV when away from my home Bell wifi. Its mostly the main US networks impacted: CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX etc. But I use to be able to watch CBC when away from home but still in Ontario.  Now I cannot.  What i cant understand is why the other Canadian networks, CTV, Global, Sportsnet and TSN etc all work.  But not CBC.

Good Day & Welcome.

Thank you for posting your question.

CRTC broadcasting regulations and licensing restrictions limit your access to out-of-province local stations. For example, you generally cannot receive CBC Ontario (CBLT) directly while residing in B.C.. Bell must adhere to regional broadcast footprints.

If you are traveling outside of your local viewing area or trying to use the Fibe TV app while connected to a non-Home Wi-Fi network, regional blackouts apply.

You can choose to purchase a Timeshifting package from Bell to access out-of-province major networks (like CTV or Global). CBC does not allow out-of-province time shifting.

Even though CBC isn’t available for you to watch outside your home Wi‑Fi network, you can still access their regional content through the CBC streaming service: Live | Canada's Home for Streaming | CBC Gem

Take care.

Thanks for the response, however I did not say I am out of province.  My Bell home wifi is in Toronto and I am blocked from watching CBC live on the Fibe app 2 hours north of Toronto at my cottage.  Same province!   This is strange because 6 months ago I could get it ok and  still I am able to watch all the other Canadian networks.  I understand why the American networks may be restricted, but no good reason why CBC is the only Canadian station blocked.  I can even live stream CItyTV.

Good Day.

Thank you for your reply.

As I previously mentioned, if you are traveling outside of your local viewing area or trying to use the Fibe TV app while connected to a non-Home Wi-Fi network, regional blackouts apply.
