Hi,
I have a 2500 receiver. It uses radio frequency (RF) to change channels. I have a TV hooked up near the receiver where my cable enters the house. I also have a cable running thru the walls to by balcony.
Currently I can sit on the balcony and change channels while the receiver is in the basement.
The 2500 receiver has a coax plug in and a coax plug out as well as a coax plug for a small antenna. This small antenna is to communicate with the remote control when in another room. The 2500 receiver is only in SD mode. Bell told me that SD is no longer supported and they will send me a 6500 receiver as an upgrade. When i received the 6500 receiver, I had to use the three red/black/yellow wire combination and purchase an adapter so I can connect to the coax cable going to the balcony, because the only coax attachment on the6500 was for satellite signal in.
I hooked everything up and eventually got my signals. Unfortunately, when I was on the balcony, I could not change the channels. IT seems that I need to be in front of the receiver to change channels.
The Bell agent informed me that I may need an antenna mounted on the receiver. He also ensured me that the 6500 will work when I am in another location of the house.
They sent me one but this attaches via a coax plug. There is only one coax plug on the receiver and as I mentioned, it is for satellite in.
My questions are:
1- Is the 6500 a RF receiver?
2- If the 6500 receiver is not RF, does Bell have one?
3- How am I supposed to hook the little antenna with a female coax fitting onto the 6500? (the 6500 only has HDMI, USB and the three color plug bundle.)
4- What should I do so I can change the channels while on my balcony?
Thank you

Thank you for your question. The 6500 uses a slim, infrared remote. https://www.bell.ca/Bell_TV/Remotes . It is usable with 6500, 9500, and 7500 receivers. Those receivers do not use RF (Bluetooth) for their remote connection but use infrared light. Given that you need to be in the same room as the receiver 6500 receiver to use the remote, you will no longer be able to make the remote work from your balcony. I do not know if Bell has any older receivers available. You may find that third party remotes may meet your need, but I can't speak to that specifically.

Thank you.
What was really annoying was that the Bell agent said OF COURSE" you will be able to be in one room and switch channels while the receiver is in another room.
