Good Day & Welcome
If your Bell Home phone runs on copper today and you are converting to fibre-to-the-home technology (FTTH), you may have problems using older equipment designed for regular copper phone lines. Types of older equipment may include:
- Older analogue dial pulse phones may have difficulties communication with the newer technology. You will probably be able to receive calls. Dialing can be an issue.
- Home alarm systems
- Fax machines
- Dial-up modems
- Teletypewriters (TTY)
To find out if your devices are fibre optic compatible, please contact the equipment manufacturer.
When you convert from copper to fibre with Bell, you can still have a Bell Home phone line. Your Bell Home line no longer connects to copper. Your phone line connects to fibre by way of your modem.
Your home phone can connect directly to your modem. This is just one of many options that you can choose.
In most cases, the phone and answering device will remain connected as it is today with the wiring from the phone jack being redirected. It will eventually end up being plugged into the telephone jack on the back of your Bell modem.
If you have an older dial phone or answering machine that is not compatible with fibre, there are many other wireless phone alternatives (such as Panasonic, Vtech, etc.), that are reasonably priced. These can be purchased in store or online at locations such as Amazon, Best Buy, etc.
Thank you for reaching out to the Bell Community Forum.
Take care.
