Latency In Games

My friend and I play the same game at the same time, and we only live 10 minutes from each other. Except he has the 500Mbps plan, while I have the gigabit fibe 1.5. Somehow he gets lower latency than me in an actual game. I like to play competitively and latency matters allot. I called tech support multiple times but they keep on telling me to do the basic stuff (un plug and plug it back in etc.) I was wondering if anyone could help me. I think its a routing issue. I have a better PC everything than my fiends PC, but still he somehow manages to get lower latency to the servers. What's the point of having fast internet when someone who has 1/3rd of your speeds still gets lower latency lol. Might be time to downgrade or change ISPs and hope I get better routing to the servers with them.
For more Info, I'm playing on ethernet (cat 6e) cable and my motherboard is a Asus ROG Z390-F which is capable of 2.5g+ internet speeds.

Welcome to the club, some of these replies are helpful so I suggest going through them.

Sometimes it's a temporary issue. Trying pinging 1.1.1.1. It should show a consistently low ping time with no packet loss.

If it does, then there's nothing much you can do besides try again tomorrow to see if it improved. Sometimes a VPN can help with routing issues, but it has it's own drawbacks.

Thank you for your question. I played the Battlefield franchise myself for many years; 20, as I look back at the pile of titles I own. It's a good, fun game.

I am familiar with that message. I learned to ignore it. Because of the nature of the internet, Bell can't be responsible for internet routing beyond their own network. Depending on the location of the Battlefield server, your ping can be fast or not. Some servers run an auto-kick at a ping of 300ms or higher. As long as you stay under that ceiling, you can enjoy the game and have fun. And learn to snipe.

Hello to whoever is reading this,

Recently, I have been experiencing latency in all sorts of online games; the latency is tolerable; however, after many years, I upgraded to Bell for the reason of low latency. My current setup is the Gigahub 2.0, Cat-6a ethernet, and a gaming pc which is more than capable of handling 2.5 GBPS. The speedtests I've done give the advertised speed; however, in any online game, the latency is not good. The issue has nothing to do with my device or my cable, as I went to a colleague's house, who also has Bell, and my latency was close to 5ms, which is good. So I am confused about what the issue is. I called tech support many times, and they just do a speed test and then basically say it's not their problem.

Also I've done all troubleshooting steps that Bell says (rebooting, different ports, etc).

What is your latency when gaming?

Latency is around 30

Different nodes have different latencies. 30 msec is within normal range, pending on node.

Latency can go up with data transfers. If you ping 8.8.8.8 what is your latency then?

Even at 30 msec the in game latency will be normalized to avoid people with ultra low latency to have an advantage over those with higher latency connection. Within a reasonable range of course.

When I ping 8.8.8.8 I get 2 or 1ms. We both are Bell, and using my pc with their internet gives me lower latency.

If you know the server IP, a traceroute could shed some light on the situation.

I do not know the server IP.
