Suddenly downloads SLOW unless I use a VPN?

Not sure what's going on anymore with BELL

I'll use this example. If I try to download a VOD from a twitch stream I recorded on streamrecorder.io over wifi on phone/tablet it will download in a few minutes...but if I go to my PC, that is plugged in directly to the HUB it will take HOURS for the same file.

Yet, if I just go turn on a VPN on the PC it will then download 10-15 minutes. Still not as fast as over WIFI on mobile device but worlds faster then without the VPN on.

What the heck is going on, it's not the cable, it's not the DNS. bizarre that the ethernet port would be giving the WORST/CONSTANTLY weird issues.

Hey there @ILoveSouls, thank you for reaching out to the Bell Community 🙂

Can you share which Internet package/modem you currently subscribe to?

Have you had an opportunity to test a different Ethernet port/cable in order to rule that out?

We are interested to see a screen shot showing the results of your Bell speed testOpens in a new tab or window for each scenario (VPN on/off)

You can also try running the Virtual repair toolOpens in a new tab or window

The Virtual repair tool will:

  • Look for service outages in your area.
  • Check the equipment outside your home.
  • Reboot all your hardware.
  • Optimize the settings for your service.
