Unlimited texting in Europe?

We have unlimited texting in Europe in our mobility package. Do we have to take our phone off airplane mode to receive/send texts or will texting function while in airplane mode?

Good Day & Welcome to the Bell Community Forum

If you have roaming, then you will need to take your device off of Airplane mode in order to send & receive texts.

Unlimited texting? Please explain? Which plan do you subscribe to?

FYI Only. Please check your mobility agreement to confirm what is included & your texting that is included in your plan confirm.

Take care.

Good morning, @DWO. Welcome to the Bell Community, and thanks for your post.

To be explicitly clear, Bell currently offers no mobility plans with covered usage for travel within Europe. We currently only have Canada/US and Canada/US/Mexico plans.

As the Community is a peer-to-peer support channel, we cannot speak to the specific circumstances to your plan. However you most likely have covered international texting while within Canada, as well as within the US and/or Mexico if you have one of the aforementioned plans.

We would recommend reviewing your plan via MyBellOpens in a new tab or window to ensure what your plan does and does not cover. These are the relevant portions of a plan to look for when it comes to international texting:

  • Can-Can/US/Int Messaging - You have texting covered from within Canada to the US and other international destinations.
  • US-Can/US/Int Messaging - The same as above, but from within the US.
  • MEX to MEX/CAN/US/Int Messaging - And again the same, but from within Mexico.

If you would still like to make use of your services while outside of Canada, the US, or Mexico with one of these plans, you will still be making use of Roam BetterOpens in a new tab or window - To do so, you will need to disable airplane mode, as airplane mode prevents all wireless communication from your phone, including cellular.

Let us know if you have any further questions.

Very disappointed that the Bell sales rep misled us into thinking “unlimited international texting” meant texting to and from anywhere in Europe. We were clear about our upcoming trip and wanting to be able to communicate whilst overseas. We have no need to text to Europe.
