Old dish with new receiver at camp

We have an older dish at our camp and we have had people bring their receiver from home. Unfortunately we have been unable to connect the two. The receiver and dish won't talk to each other. Do we need to upgrade the dish or find an older receiver to get things to work

Yes & no. Depending on the vintage, you might need to upgrade the dish, Lnb or redirect it to line up with the satellite.

Do you have Bell satellite TV for your personal use? Is your satellite tv working? Does your dish have a single Lnb or dual? If your receiver is working on HD, then that means your dish LNB & dish are aligned & working as they should.

Bell satellite SD receivers are on the way out. Once the SD programming feed is phased out you will not be able to receive any SD Satellite TV programming on a SD/HD receiver.

You should talk to Bell Satellite TV to confirm what you have & what you need. Bell Satellite TV does have a promo program that is currently running to upgrade satellite receivers.

Thank you We have had older style receivers that work but not the newer ones.

you also have to run a "check switch" anytime you try a new receiver

Like others here, I’ve recently received my “upgrade” to HD units. This is great at my house where I simply plug them in and go because I had added HD receivers here previously, however, not so with my cottage because the satellite Dish equipment (specifically the lnb) has never been updated there.

While utilizing the Bell Chat feature today, I asked about getting a dual lnb so I could update my cottage site and make my new HD units usable (ie, communicate with both 91 and 82 satellites) he wasn’t able to help me because I didn’t recall what the existing single lnb looked like. I replied that it was just a regular old Bell lnb on the arm of a bell dish from years ago, but he still wouldn’t send one. I’m not thrilled with this answer as it will cost me to have a local person do this work now when it’s such a simple job that I could do it myself (I was a computer tech for many years, have installed other satellite equipment previously, etc, so I’m very comfortable doing this simple task).

is there no way that Bell can keep their word and make this HD upgrade a “free upgrade” when I’m perfectly comfortable doing this simple task and would not want to A. Buy the part, and B. Pay someone else to do the work?
