Desktop cannot connect to 2.4 Ghz

Why did I switch
Contributor

I have the giga hub 4000 and honestly it has been nothing but a nightmare. I had the modem set to the "whole home" wifi so I can use wifi pods. Currently, I am having issues connecting my sons' desktops located upstairs to the 2.4GHz wifi which is needed to communicate with my cannon printer. When I try to connect to 2.4, the message is "No internet, secured" and the IPV6 addresses begin with fec0:0 followed by more of the same. I did not run into this problem the entire time I was with rogers. Both computers are able to connect to the visitor internet, however that is running on the 5.0 GHz so it will not communicate with the printer. There is already a 6e pod in the hallway about 10 feet from the computers to boost the signal from the hub which is on my main floor. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I'm ready to switch back to rogers.

It's due to band steering as they will try to connect to the fastest network available for increased performance.

You will have to split the bands up: FAQ band splitting

Try connecting to the 5 Ghz band and see if it can see the printer on the 2.4 ghz band.

Thanks for responding. The 5.0 GHz does not show as a wifi option on either computer. The printer is recognized on the visitor 5.0 GHz network but when it attempts to print it says it’s offline. I’m assuming because it’s not the 2.4. The same thing happens with my Mac. I have to make sure I am on the 2.4 GHz to print. I can’t figure out why the desktops won’t connect to the 2.4 network. I even tried temporarily shutting off all other bands so 2.4 was the only option.

This is very helpful information, however the issue is that the desktops will not connect to the 2.4 SSID (standalone or when there’s dual broadcasting). I will try to reconfigure my Mac/printer using that link as they do not consistently communicate with each other even though my Mac is on the 2.4. Thank you.
