Financial Institution Will Not Accept Bell or Sympatico E-mail Addresses

My household received this e-mail (no, it's not spam) from a Canadian financial institution.

According to our records, you have registered with (name removed) using a Bell.net or Sympatico.ca email address. The email provider for these addresses does not support them with TLS (Transport Layer Security), a widely adopted security protocol designed to facilitate privacy and data security for communications over the internet, such as email.

After November 30, 2023, you will no longer be able to send email communications to (name removed) from your bell.net or sympatico.ca email address. You will still be able to receive emails from (name removed), such as eStatement notifications, balance alerts and other important banking information.

We strongly encourage you to consider switching your email account to a service provider offering more robust security and encryption protocols. If you already have another email account with a different provider, you can update your email account in our records through Online Banking, by visiting a branch, or by calling our Contact Centre

While this is an inconvenience and the easier way is to use another provider, it does point out that Bell has been put on notice that there is an issue here. Does Bell have a response?

The issue is on your financial institution’s side. They need to talk to Bell directly. I raised the issue initially and a conversation helped. Bell isn’t phasing out mail, just not opening new mail accounts, I believe.

Thanks for your quick reply! The emails are actually coming from Salesforce. Salesforce is saying that it's Bell's fault. I guess I'm caught in the middle, trying to help the people who aren't receiving their emails. 🤔

Salesforce or the client using their program would be best to talk to Bell directly about the issue. Bell's e-mail is still working.

I really appreciate your help. I'll see if I can get them talking to each other.

That was my question looking through this thread .  I thought it was a typo because obviously adopting the latest (although 5 year old) standard makes way more sense than the 15 year old standard. But I guess using a standard that came out before the iPhone and when Blackberries had LCD screens is fine….

seriously though it seems like sympatico is being kept active because there are a lot of users - it would be extremely disruptive to end it. But I don’t expect a lot of modernization. It will be a basic email that functions for most private applications
