Giga hub mounted to wall. How can I access Ethernet ports?

PLEASE

I had Bell internet installed about a week ago, and the technician mounted the Giga hub onto the wall such that the back of the hub is flat against the wall. I then learned that all of the ethernet ports are on the back of the hub, and are therefore completely inaccessible:

I called the Bell support phone number to ask how to correctly dismount the hub, since I didn't want to break it. But I was told that I can only have the unit dismounted if "it's for home repairs", and the only other suggestion they gave  was to purchase wi-fi pods, which cost an additional monthly fee (not even a one-time charge), and to connect to the ethernet cable through them.

This is the most infuriatingly dumb problem to have. Why would technicians ever mount these hubs, if the ethernet ports are exclusively on the back? Why even mount it on the wall in the first place, given that it's about 1ft off the ground and Google images suggests that it can just as easily sit on the floor or any flat surface? And why is the only solution to this entirely self-inflicted problem to pay for an additional subscription?

Hi,

I get your frustration, the technician could have let you know about it.

Don't worry about breaking anything. They put two screws in the wall and hang the router on it. You can just slightly push it upward and then bring it away from the wall, it will unlatch and there is no reason to think it will cause any issues to the plugged fibre cable.

Also, you can simply unscrew slightly more each of the two screw and this will allow you to use ethernet cables with no trouble..Alternatively they sell flat and even right-angle fancy cables.. I don't think it necessary.

Best of luck.

Good question. I have my Giga Hub mounted on the wall and three ethernet cables, a phone line, the fibre cable and power cable all running from the back of the modem. There is enough bend in all the cables to that there are no issues with them being in the back of the modem and the modem on the wall. As has been suggested, the modem can be easily lifted and taken off the wall. Nothing will happen. Back the screws off a turn or two and reinstall the modem. You can also put the modem on top of a desk or cabinet, if you wish.

The Bell Hub 4000 & the Giga Hub 4000 are wall mountable. There are 3 mounting holes on the back for fastening up to 3 screws that are on the wall. When the technician came out and installed the modem, there would of been a paper template in the box showing him the wall screw spacing for attaching the modem. (He may have left it with you.)

The modem needs to be secure but not be completely tight against the wall as there are plug in cables that attach to the back.

These screws can be adjusted by turning  them outward slightly. To do so, you should unplug the power from the modem. With one hand push up on the modem from the bottom while steadying & holding the modem in your other hand. If it is really tight, apply a little force when pushing up. It only needs to move up approximately .75 - 1.0 in. It should now lift off of the screws.

You will now see 1, 2, or 3 screws on the wall. With a screwdriver, back the screws out of the wall slightly. This will allow for easier future modem removal. To refasten the modem to the wall, grasp the modem with both hands, one on each side of the modem, line up the holes on back of the modem with the screws on the wall. Once the screws are in the modem holes, slide the modem down approximately .75 - 1.0in.

When removing & reinstalling the modem, you must always be careful not to damage any of the cables that are fastened in the back.

You can now plug the modem back in to your power source. Wait for all of the lights to stop flashing, 5 -10min., & it will now be ready to go.
