HomeHub 4000

I received a new HomeHub 4000 today, I'm not sure why I got it since I already have a working HH4K. However, the new HH has the word GIGA on the left hand side of the black stripe along the bottom front. The older one doesn't. Is this a new model of some kind? Has anyone seen this?

"Chances are it has Wifi 6e..."

^ this. It does.

According to reports, Bell is doing a a six-month trial of the Giga Hub. @Andy3 maybe you are part of this. Surprised that you were sent one without any explanation.

If anyone is interested in more details, here's a link to FCC ID information on this HH4000. It's the Sagemcom Fast5689E.

@Andy3 ,

Anything different on the back side?

Chances are it has Wifi 6e...

I had two Bell supervisors check how their techs had done my fiber install and one of them said he was testing an updated Wifi...

He originally said Wifi 6 but I showed him their current HH4000 was already supporting it so he later said it was 6e...

I wish I had known this was coming, I would have waited a bit more to have my fiber installed...

(Though I doubt I have any devices that support Wifi 6e so if this the only update it would not make much of a difference for me...)

Thanks for your help. I installed the Giga HH4k and haven’t noticed any changes other than the indicator lights are a nice blue. Maybe Bell just took a regular HH4K and tarted it up to look more techie.

Sagemcom (HH4K manufacturer) added Wifi 6e to it, possibly/probably nothing more...

If they did I would have expected the modem model number to change more than the addition of a "E" at the end of it...

I could not get a definitive answer to this but as far as I can tell, unless you have Wifi 6e hardware, you won't see any difference compared to the HH4000... Wifi 6e adds 6 Ghz, something even Wifi 6 does not support.

You might be able to upgrade some of your existing devices, I know some people have done it... In my case, if I wanted to add it to my laptop, I would need to remove the Intel AX201 it currently has and replace it with an Intel AX210... Definitely doable if your hardware is recent enough though not everyone is comfortable doing this...

Have a nice day!

The important upgrade is access to 6GHz band for wifi (in addition to the existing 2.4 and 5GHz). Now we just need devices which can take advantage of this 🙂

I have a MacBook Air (M1) which supports WiFi6. The latest M2 chip model is being released next month. No 6e support.

And have the Giga Hub to begin with..

I just got installed and already the modem I got is last years' model... 😉

Anyway, neither my work laptop nor my own support 6e (though I could upgrade mine if I wanted to and I am sure the work laptop could be upgraded if they wanted to) and I mostly use my own access points which are Wifi 5...

I only use the HH4000 Wifi when I want faster speeds but it comes with the tradeoff I do not have access to my internal network and my homelab...'

Have a nice day!

Yikes, for something that's not even out yet, that's😒...

Looks like no Wifi 6e for me either, the previous generation of my Lenovo X1 Extreme had the Wifi card replaceable, it is not possible with mine...

There is an M.2 slot close to the place it is on the motherboard and the onboard one could surely be disabled but the cables are a little bit too short to reach...

Anyway, Wifi 6 is already and upgrade compared to 5, I should not complain...

Have a nice day!
