Our driveway and front lawn was dug and and left with dangerous holes by Bell trying to fix a neighbourhood service issue in Guelph, April 2023. Many neighbours have similar damage. Numerous calls have been made and apparently past off to "Technicians" who will address the issue. No action has been taken, and there is apparently no-one in charge of this we can talk to.. And naturally previous reports did not appear on the Bell system.

We did manage just prior to Winter in December 2023 to get Bell to ar least fill the deep hole with stone so the driveway could be used, but through the winter much has washed away.

Other neighbours have also been trying without luck. What do we do to get all the damage repaired asap.

I've tried this number a few times. Just an automated message saying please stay on the line. Waiting again for 30 minutes and no-one, crickets....is there a number I can reach someone?

I trust you have reached out to Bell Customer Service & you have explained your issue to them in detail. Did you ask to speak to a a customer service manager? If it is on your property or on an easement, they will need to refer this on to a contractor for cleanup & restoration. Obttain a ticket number from the service representative & if need be ask to speak to the manager. You should be given a completion date & time.

Bell Wire & Cable Repair - Please call: 611 or 1 866 310-BELL (2355) or dial #611 from any Bell mobile device.

I can not overly stress the importance of providing accurate & factual details, including dates, times, who you previously talked to, when & what was discussed. Include any before or after photos of the damage that you might have.

If the damage that you mention was clearly caused by a contractor doing work for Bell on you property, then I am very confident that Bell will make it right.

We recently switched to bell after we they upgraded our Ajax area (Audley / Bambridge) with fibre internet. They cut my driveway 2 inch depth next to the walkway.to bury 4 four fibre cables. I can also see the cables through my interlocking. I called bell and reported about this issue with an incident ticket and I was hoping they will fix it the right way by running through conduit. I was told that Ajax municipality doesn't allow burying fibre cables using proper conduit. The bell contractor did nothing. This cable can be cut by tension caused by freeze and thaw cycle, lawn / driveway work or can be cut intentionally by vandals easily.

Is this how a fibre upgrade is done ? Is it a lazy contractor issue or is it truly an another bad Durham municipality management issue?  I want to make sure I engage the right team for further action. Can anyone shed some light here?

I already complained to Durham municipality. Waiting for formal response from Durham. ! Will update it for everyone's benefit.

Town of Ajax doesn't allow laying conduit. (STUPID!!)

In answer to your question, yes this is how Bell fibre upgrade is done.

Bell requests a permit to install their system that consists of both conduit and drop layer (black wire) in the municipal right of way (boulevard). The conduit and drop layer are placed so that they can be easily accessed for maintenance and service and without conflicting with other utilities in the boulevard. Freeze / thaw is not an issue with this product and as for being cut that does happen. The conduit and drop layer is maintained by Bell and they are aware of damage that can happen to their product.

Please confirm there is nothing stopping Bell from putting a conduit right. Bell support crew said they couldn't get the permission from Ajax to put the conduit. I just want to be sure before requesting the bell to put a conduit.

If you are referring to the drop layer wire that is tucked beside the sidewalk or along the curb when there is no sidewalk, and then covered by polymeric sand for driveways or buried under the sod, that is our agreement with Bell. A conduit to cover the drop layer is not required.

A conduit of this nature would conflict with the future maintenance or replacement of municipal sidewalk or curb where the drop layer wire is easily moved or replaced.

Thanks for the quick response. I was worried about multiple fibre cable droppings at just under 2" depth. Many home internet connections could be impacted by driveway work or lawn aeration work done at one location.

Is conduit for bell / rogers cables permitted new developments ? Does this issue affect only the existing development in Ajax? I wish Ajax finds a proactive long term solution for this issue rather than asking Cable companies to react to outages.

In late July / early August AECON drilled a hole in my fron yard in order to lay fibre cable.  I have artificial turf in my front yard.  AECON workers assured me that they would not damage the very expensive artificial grass.  They rolled up the turf from the curb to about 2 feet into the front and drilled the hole.  The hole is about 6 feet+ plus deep.  They completed the work, rolled the turf back to the curb and moved on.  There is huge dip in the turf where the hole is.  It is dangerous and one could fall right through into the hole.  With the on-coming rain an snow in the next few months, this could cause serious damage to the property.

I need the hole filled and and levelled to the surrounding area in the way it was before the work they performed

I have spent  enormous money to have this artificial turf laid in my front yard and must be repaired IMMEDIATELY.

Please help.

i'm in Ottawa - 2 weeks ago Bell came in and dug up interlock in my driveway, after they were finished, it "looked" as good as new ... then the stones fell into a sink hole (looks like they didn't fill the hole before laying the stones back down) ... now i have a 2 foot deep hole that's 2 feet long and 1 foot wide in the middle of my driveway ... the same on my front lawn where they dug 2 holes and covered them with sand, but someone stepped on one and fell thru a 2 foot deep hole - now i have 2 more sinkholes on my front lawn ... who can i call to have them come back and fix these holes properly ?

Hi there @barrelhouse
Thank you for your post and welcome to the Bell Community.
Were you able to reach a specialist at the phone number number indicated in the helpful reply above?
Please keep the Community posted, we're here for you if you need any more help.

@BellPatricia

My street had Bell Fibe cable installed in 2022-2023. The contractor installing the Fibe cable cut a one foot square hole in my driveway as part of the street installation process and had patched the hole afterwards.

Last year there was a little depression where they had patched but nothing too serious. This spring, the  area has developed into a sinkhole. The square of pavement that was patched has sunken into the driveway almost a foot and the area around it seems to be eroded as well. My driveway has been well maintained and has no damage or cracks anywhere else on it except for that one area.

I called the customer service for residential property damage and was told that the one year warranty had expires and there was no recourse.
I am shocked both at the poor customer service tone and exchange that I had with the agent I spoke to as well as the lack of accountability concerning damages that appear to be solely due to the contractor’s lack of attention in completing a durable repair.

How am I able to address or escalate this issue?

Thank you for your post. I suggest you use Bell's Resolve a Concern  to seek clarification of this issue.

I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the unresolved issues following a recent service installation at my townhouse in a new development. After ordering Bell services, I was informed that my home could not connect to the street hub. It took six months, including the entire winter, for a technician to address this issue. The technician dug up my front yard to establish the connection, which is now functional. However, the yard was left in disrepair, transforming from green grass to a muddy mess. Additionally, a concrete block in the area has collapsed, creating an unsafe and unsightly condition.

I was promised that within two weeks, a team would return to lay topsoil and grass seed to restore the yard. This timeline has passed, and no action has been taken. I am requesting immediate assistance to repair the damaged ground and address the collapsed concrete block. Please confirm a specific date for the repairs and provide a contact number for follow-up.

For prompt resolution, I urge you to escalate this matter to the appropriate department. If this issue remains unresolved, I will consider escalating it to the Bell Management Team or the Commission for Complaints for Telecom-television Services (CCTS).

Thank you for your attention to this matter.
