Netgear ORBI mesh can’t reach decent speed with Bell Gigahub

I have recently starting using Bell FTTH with 3gbps plan.

I always use my own Orbi RBK852 whole home Wi-Fi mesh system instead of the hardware provided from internet provider.

Before I start to change setting on Gigahub and my router, I researched a lot regarding how to setup PPPOE or DMZ on bell Gigahub in here and dslreports forum.

I tried to setup it during weekend and also tried all the possible configurations.

Here is my result:

  • PPPOE works but cannot reach optimal download/upload speed. My ORBI main router has a 2.5G port and the best download/upload speed I can reach is 2000/790. Not sure this is what people called double NAT or not. Below is the Speedtest result from my router.

  • ADMZ can’t even work properly. On Gigahub, I turned off all the Wi-Fi related setting, enabled the DMZ in Gigahub, ticked the check mark beside advanced DMZ and added my main router as trusted device. However, My main router gave me really hard time to get a usable connection. The router can get the public IP address if lucky. and when it connect the internet, it is so slow that cannot even perform a Speedtest from my router web interface.

I did not find any posts regarding using Orbi WI-FI mesh system with Gigahub and be able to reach optimal speeds in this forum.

I would really appreciate if someone could share the setup details.

Good evening @ChrisWJI,

Welcome to the Bell Community, and thank you for reaching out.
We appreciate all of the details you've shared.

We recommend testing further by connecting your PC directly to the Giga Hub via Ethernet (as outlined below) and then perform a speed test for each set-up.

1) Directly connected to the Giga Hub with no PPPoE set up.
2) Directly connected to the Giga Hub with a PPPoE connection initiated by your PC.

It is also possible that your Orbi mesh system is not optimized, and for that we do recommend checking out the user manual for tips on using that specific equipment.

We hope you will keep the Community posted with your results.

Hi Patricia,

Thanks for your reply and suggestion. However, I don’t think those 2 option would help as right now I am trying to get best speed between Bell Gigahub and my Netgear RBR850 router. The Speedtest results are from my router interface. I am aware that my computer and other hardware or for now probably won’t be able to reach the 3gbps speed. However, since my router has a 2.5gbps port, the upload speed is just too slow compared to my download speed.
