Nintendo Switch will not connect to Wi-Fi

I cannot get my Nintendo switch connected to the wifi.  I did not have an issue a month ago.

I have tried to reboot modem, switch off the console and make sure all software is updated but it’s still failed.  What else can I do?

Good Day & Welcome to the Bell Community Forum.

Are you experiencing any other Wi-Fi connection issues on other devices? If so, then, power your Bell modem completely off by removing the power cord, waiting 20-30 seconds & powering it back on.

If you are not experiencing any other Wi-Fi issues, please check out the following:

  1. Press and hold the Power button on the top-left of your Nintendo for several seconds. Select Power Options and Restart.
  2. Verify that you have not accidently turned on Airplane mode.
  3. Have you run a connection test on your switch?
  4. Have you checked that Nintendo web site is not down & is functioning properly?
  5. Have you tried to clear your network settings? Go System Settings > Internet> Internet Settings. Tap your current network under “Registered Networks." Tap Clear Settings. Tap Delete. Go back reselect your Wi-Fi network.
  6. Have you tried connecting your Nintendo switch using an ethernet wired connection?

As a final solution, you may need to complete a factory reset on your Nintendo. Before doing so, I would suggest that you reach out and contact Nintendo Tech support at: 1-800-255-3700.

After some more searching, the following solution helped (and according to Bell, this is a known Switch issue): Log in to the Bell modem from your laptop (not the app on the phone, because it doesn't have that feature), and create a guest network. Then connect the switch to the guest network instead. I am not sure what the difference is, but it works like a charm.

I have done every single step listed above, including #6, the Ethernet cable. In every case I can only get it to connect after resetting the router and then it only stays connected for a little bit (abt 10 minutes). And then it stops. Interestingly, I can still see the bell connection in the list showing with full bars, I just cannot connect to it again - without resetting the router. I’ve been in contact with Nintendo about this and they keep referring back to you. I’m interested to know if others had success with any of the options in the list?

Do you have another device connected to the home hub, and does that device works after the Nintendo lost connection?

It appears this in not an unusual problem and not confined to Bell. A quick Google search suggests that it may be related to the device, and has been an ongoing issue with the Switch. @WelshTerrier has a good list of helpful suggestions, which has a green checkmark.

Hi there @Morrisb003
Thank you for your post and welcome to the Community.
Have you attempted any of the steps suggested listed above?
Are you able to share which model modem you have?
Another thing you could try is turning on your Guest network via the modem GUI to see if it will allow you to connect.
Looking forward to hearing back how that goes.

Yes I have several devices connected and none have problems. To add to the mystery, if I set up a hotspot on my phone and connnect my switch to it, it works fine. It’s only my bell five router that refuses it to connect.

Hi there @Polaris4
Are you able to share which model modem you have?
Have you tried enabling & connecting your Nintendo Switch to the Guest network to see if it will connect properly?
Looking forward to hearing back.

Exactly same problem I got too, and switch connecting to my phone but not to the bell modem.
Restarting a modem works for a few sec and it's back to square one

didn't work

Hi there @Vlad179
A recommendation you can try is separating your SSID's so that the 2.4ghz & 5ghz are apart.  Please note that if you have Wi-Fi pods, they will not work with the Whole Home Wi-Fi turned off. To do this:
1. Access your modem GUI (type 192.168.2.1 in a web-browser) and log in.
2. Select "Manage my Wi-Fi".
3. Toggle "Whole Home Wi-Fi" to "Off".
4. Click Save
5. Click Advanced settings
6. Uncheck the boxes below to be able to rename the 5 GHz radio
7. Temporarily rename the 5 GHz radio, for example by adding a -5G to the name
8. Attempt to connect your Nintendo Switch to the 2.4ghz SSID (it will show up on your list of available Wi-Fi networks). If you experience the same issue, please try connecting to your 5ghz SSID.

Another suggestion to try is adding your device (Nintendo Switch) to DMZ.
1. Access your modem GUI (type 192.168.2.1 in a web-browser) and log in.
2. Select "Advanced tools and settings".
3. Select "DMZ".
4. Toggle the DMZ to ON (in the top left corner).
5. Look for your Nintendo Switch in the list / manually enter the IP address for the Nintendo Switch.
6. Click "add" and then click "save".

If that doesn't help, you can also attempt adding it to Advanced DMZ. To do this, Please repeat steps 1-3, and then select "Advanced DMZ" at the bottom and then enter your Nintendo Switch MAC address manually and click "add" and then "save".

My Nintendo Switch cant connect to the home wi-fi. I have changed the DNS to manual configuration and set the 8.8.8.8 and all that stuff, but didnt work. I have also reseted my modem from the APP and did work like 30 minutes, the Switch did connect to the wi-fi, but after a while it was disconnected.

Is there something support team has to reset or reconfigure to any previous config? I have a month with the service and everything was working fine, but this is the 3rd day with this issue.

Thanks in advance.

Hey @Gummyjoke

Welcome to the Bell community 🙂

Do you see an error message when you try connecting the Nintendo Switch to Wi-Fi? Do any other devices have trouble connecting to Wi-Fi?

Please try out the helpful suggestions in the thread above and let the community know how everything is going.
