PS5 packet loss and lagging after new install of Giga Hub modem (1.5Gbs connection)

Hi,

I just had my Home Hub 3000 upgraded to a Giga Hub and we went from 1Gbs to 1.5Gbs.

Since we had the Giga Hub installed I've had issues with games on my PS5 beening extremely laggy. Fortnite and Pubg in particular. The speed is not an issue as we're getting above 100+ Mbps on the wifi. We never had issues using the wifi with the Home hub 3000. I now have it connected via ethernet cable and am getting speeds over 400 Mbps but am still getting the same issue with the lag and packet loss in the games.

I've rebooted everything multiple times and cleaned out the hard drive on the PS5 but that hasn't worked either.

Has anyone out there had a similar problem and solution?

Also I don’t know if you know this either. But because you n mentioned it. Use the game call of duty for an example. Ok. Now if you go into that game you can go to the options setting in the game and you can see what your nat setting is in that game. NAT type 2 is what most have but you can make it open or moderate or closed. And that is done by logging into your modem and then opening certain gaming ports. And if you do have a moderate NAT type and you go to join a game lobby by using the search engine in game you are more likely to get a laggy match due to it not being able to find a lobbie best suited for your area. When you put to an open Nat setting. Still type 2. Now it allows that game to map you better and to find you and place u into a lobby that is best for you. And you will notice that you are more likely to get into a lobby that isn’t laggy and stuff like that. I hope I explained that good. Like I don’t know all the tech talk to be able to explain it better. But I think you probably know a lot about computers so you probably understand what I’m saying. I’m not talking ports u plug into. I’m talking ports with in the modem. Or maybe there called portals or something like that. Lol

With the new router, you don't need to forward ports anymore for gaming, if you have both PS4 and PS5 then it becomes conflicting and you would have to choose one or the other since they are using the same ports for online gaming. The new routers supports UPnP and this should take care of your gaming port forwarding automatically. You can login to the HomeHub, go into advanced parameters and enable UPnP directly form there. I don't think this would change anything on your current d/l speed. Be aware that UPnP increase network vulnerability to your home network unfortunately.

Yes I know that. That’s what I’m trying to say. This bell modem is not doing it automatically like my modem from Rogers did. When I play call of duty it puts me into a moderate NAT setting when it should be an open one. So for some reason with the bell modem you will have to do it manually to get it as it does not do it automatically like it should. But yes most modems today do it automatically but not bells. If u play a game like call of duty where u can go into the net work settings and stuff in game you will see there your at a moderate setting. But that’s what I was trying to say. That I was surprised this modem doesn’t do it automatically. When u get time check that in a game that u can see it. I’m sure you will see you are also probably at moderate.

By default UPnP is disabled (for security reason), if you mainly use internet for gaming, you have to enable it in the HomeHub advanced parameters menu. Then it should do it automatically. (below is the default "disable" setup)

Also I noticed u said if u have ps4 and ps5 it might conflict. As you can only use open nat on one device at a time. So I do have both the pro and the ps5. And with the rogers modem as long as I didn’t have them both on at same time and just had one on then it would always automatically put me to open. But if I turned n both on at same time then it conflicts. But bell modem doesn’t even do it automatically for only one unit. U must do it manually.

Oh ok. Thanks mate. I will do that then. That was good helpful reply. See I didn’t even have to do that with the Roger’s one. I guess there default is already enabled. But that’s good so it’s just that setting to enable and then it does it automatically for me. I will most definitely enable that now. I took screen pic of what u said so I can go to rite setting. I’m not a computer guy so I don’t know what those things u tell me to enable even do. So thanks again

I called bell cuase I’m not able to get to those setting because my account hasn’t been linked to my bell app. So I’m only able to get in as guest. But I called and had the tech girl do for me. But she said it’s already enabled UPnP. And I’m still getting a moderate nat setting. Any ideas on why it’s not open?

You should get access to your router. Now you rely on what they are saying so there is nothing to confirm nor deny if this is true or false unfortunately. I have some bad experience when they were arguing with me that I have to connect to 192.168.2.1 when I knew I changed the network to 192.168.0.0 and the router's ip was now 192.168.0.1... wasted 1 hour explaining this to the tech person on the phone so I would not rely on the information they are programmed to respond to the end user. I would prefer to check it myself if I were you. If you never changed anything, the default admin password is "admin" so you could try with this as a start.

I know mate. It’s very frustrating dealing with bell. I’m at that point now where I don’t care anymore and I just wanna get out. I just wanna go back to my old supplier. I don’t have it in me to bother to argue with them any more. Since I decided to switch to bell it’s been nothing short of a nightmare. My bell app hasn’t linked my service yet. They say like 7 days. And I’ve tried to manually log in using the 192.168.2.1 and then the modem administrator password. But I’m unable to get access to things or change. When I go to try to change something other then net work name or password it won’t let me. It tell me to go to the wifi app but I can’t get into that app until my bell has linked that account. I can only get in as a guest. So I’m not able to do much on my own. But honestly I think that’s it. I’m to frustrated and I think I’m just gonna go back to Roger’s. Since I hooked my internet up on Thursday I’ve been on the phone everyday with them. I got better things to do with my time. Thanks for your help though mate. It was greatly appreciated

Hey I was thinking maybe when I finally get full access to my modem. Giga hub. I was thinking of maybe buying a 100$ router. My question to you is. Is there a way I can get u to let me know if the router I decide to get is going to be good for what I said to do. And will u be able to walk me through it. And if I do what u did am I gonna have to talk to bell tech guy to make changes?

I noticed this morning that the physical port on the router was forced to 1Gb and Full duplex so I decided to put it back in "Auto" speed and "Auto" duplex mode to re-test just in case something weird in the auto-negotiation I would have missed. Same results, I also tried static IP as you suggested, same results. When PS5 is connected directly to HomeHub, d/l speed test from the PS5 menu goes from 920Mb to 37Mb and upload speed from 350Mb to 4Mb in all those cases. I started the monitoring on the router before I started the tests hoping this would generate a log file of some sort but I am not even sure what this does on the router.

Unfortunately no solution yet but i just wanted to note: The default admin password for the Gigahub is the modem's serial number, starts with "DM". UPnP is usually active, Bell's latest receiver (7802) requires it.

Hi, recently (2 months ago) we got a new wifi router, with the same strength, but for some reason, ever since we got it, the speed of the wifi in gaming/playstaikn 5 has felt very slow, i tried resetting the router and it didnt fix it

(We didnt have this issue with the old router, and it even says on the wifi app that the speed is excellent)
