When you add, remove or cancel a service or feature in the middle of a billing period, Bell adjusts the charge for that month so you only pay for the time you use it. This is called proration.

Bell calculates the proration from the date of the change until your next bill date. Since you’re billed for services a month in advance, your first bill after making changes will show your new regular monthly charges, plus partial charges or credits because of your recent changes.

I have included the following link with an example explaining prorated charges when a service or feature change is made in the middle of your billing period.

What does proration mean? (bell.ca)

The partial charge appears in the Partial and Others Charges & Credits section of your bill, and it will only appear once. Your bills thereafter will only include your new regular monthly charges.

Hi!

My previous plan ended on April 4 and they said I do not have to pay anything anymore. With that, I have bought a new plan before it ended, which is on March 22. The person in Bell told us that we will be charged after a month, which is April 22nd, for the new bill. However, I received a bill on April 4.

I am just confused how did this happen.

I wish I could assist you in resolving this matter, but I can not do so. As a member of this forum, I can offer up ideas, suggestions & possible solutions.

Billing issues such as this can not be resolved on the Bell Community Forum. This is a place for you to ask questions, find answers and share your thoughts on all of Bell products and services with other Bell customers like you. We do not have access to your account or billing records on this site.

Can you share some further information with us? What was your existing plan? SmartPay 2 yr.? Did you enroll in another SmartPay 2 yr. plan?  Please explain exactly what you were told.

Have you reviewed your old & new agreements?  Have you called Bell Mobility to get a better understanding& explanation of your billed charges?

With little information provided, I suspect the bill you received is for partial monthly charges under the old plan & a mix of partial charges from your new plan. Your first bill & your subsequent bill be a combination of prorated charges for the old & new plan.

If you need further clarification, I would call Bell Mobility. This bill & the next bill you receive can be somewhat difficult to understand.

To reach Bell, please call: 1 800-667-0123  or dial *611 from any Bell mobile device. You can also reach Bell Customer Service via their Internet Chat:  Contact Bell | Bell Mobility, Internet, TV and Home phone | Bell Canada

Take care

Hi there, @ConcernedPerson. Welcome to the Bell Community, and thanks for your post.

There appears to be a misunderstanding both on the part of the representative you spoke to, as well as to how your monthly bill works.

Your plan does not end, nor do you need to buy a new plan. Your monthly plan operates on thirty day billing cycles, and aside from changing your plan mid-cycle, this would not change. Neither would changing your plan itself change your routine billing cycle. At no point would you "not have to pay anything anymore" beyond outright cancelling your account.

Please bear in mind that as the Bell Community is a peer-to-peer support channel, neither Moderators or users have insight into your account or bills. However with the info you provided, you can infer the following:

  1. Your billing cycle is from the 4th to the 3rd of the following month. e.g. April 4th to May 3rd.
  2. You changed your plan on March 22nd mid-cycle.
  3. As a result of this, your bill dated to April 4th would see two plan charges: A prorated monthly charge for March 22nd to April 3, and a normal monthly charge for April 4th to May 3rd.

Again, this is only inferred from what you have shared with us. While it's regrettable if you were misinformed or if there was a misunderstanding, we're unable to dispute billing concerns via the Bell Community.

If you would like to further dispute this, please head over to our Contact UsOpens in a new tab or window page and follow the appropriate prompts to connect with a representative.

Thank you again for your post, and have a great day.
