I subscribed to Bell fibre internet after the old copper wires died. This meant leaving my old third-party internet and VOIP provider. Using my mobile with VOIP (free via Fongo) has been an utter failure and I want to return to using my cordless phone. I understand that the phone should plug into my Bell modem. What else is involved? Do I have to pay extra to do this? How would I get my old phone number ported from my previous third-party provider? (Fongo incapable of managing this, so old number still with former provider, who has kept number active for me.)

Good Day & Welcome to Bell.
If your existing number is still active, you will need to phone Bell Customer Service & request that they port your number from your existing service provider to Bell.
Your cordless phone will need to plug in to a wall jack. The wiring from this outlet must eventually plug in to the phone jack on the back of the modem. There will be a service charge & a technician visit may also be required. The Bell Customer Service representative will be able to provide you with the specific costs & transfer details. Bell would normally cancel your existing service and start your new services with them.
As soon as your current service provider receives the notice of cancellation from Bell, they will cancel your services immediately. Alternatively, you can ask to have your services cancelled at a later date.
You can keep your phone number…
If you transfer services from:
- Landline to landline
- Landline to mobile
- Mobile to landline
- Mobile to mobile
- If Bell is doing the transfer and your existing services are still active.
You might need to get a new phone number…
- If you move to a different province or “local calling area”. If you’re unsure, please contact your new service provider.
- If you are transferring services from:
- Voice over IP (VoIP) to landline
- VoIP to mobile
- Landline to VoIP
- Mobile to VoIP
You will definitely need to get a new phone number…
- If you have already cancelled your services without initiating a transfer with Bell.
You can call Bell Customer Service to make changes to your existing account at: 1 800 667-0123 or dial *611 from any Bell mobile device.
Take care.
