Bell 9500 Satellite Receiver Missing Tuner

With my 9500 receiver I have had this issue pop up a couple times. One of the tuners completely disappears out of nowhere and shows only 1 available tuner. This is extremely annoying if you have 2 shows recording because 1 of the shows does not record, even though it shows on the PVR schedule that it is recording. Normally you have 2 tuners available so 2 shows can record at the same time and you can still watch a recording or 1 of the tuners at the same time. While this issue is happening, only 1 show will record and you can only watch a recording or that only tuner, while the other show that is supposed to be recording does not end up recording at all.

I have had the new 9500 receiver for about a month now and have never had this issue before with my old receivers. Most of the time it works correctly with both tuners available like it should be. For some reason I have had this issue happen twice now out of nowhere, but then the second tuner reappears the next day.

Switch the locations of the receivers and see if the problem follows the receiver or stays at the location....If the problem doesn't follow the receiver than you know its the cable or switch....if it does follow your receiver, than the problem is your receiver.

Hey @jakedrehmer14. Thanks for reaching out to the Community. Sorry to hear that's happening, that would be very inconvenient!

Have you tried rebooting your equipment when that happens?

Keep me posted. 🙂

Thanks for the reply! I will try a full reboot next time it happens and keep you posted. I didn’t do it last time because 1 show was still recording. Hopefully that will fix it!

Sounds good! Hope that works for you. Looking forward to an update. 🙂

I program 2 shows to record at the same time.
they both show up in the Daily Schedule, and both show as recording in the guide. However only 1 show will end up on my pvr list. I cannot try the receiver anywhere else as this is my only tv. So frustrated that no matter what I do, only one tuner will function for my scheduled records.

How much storage is there left? Are the missing recordings set as delete when “space needed”? It’s useless to connect the same dvr to another TV is this case.

There’s 195hrs available of HD storage so it’s definitely not a storage issue. I’m leaning more towards a software bug that Bell should look into and fix for the next firmware update.

So did they ever find a solution for this problem, It cannot be a software problem anymore this post originated over 4 years ago. Today Jan 4/26 it happened to me, had the receiver for about 4 months now. Had one thing recording and could not go to a live channel, only my recordings, missing one tuner. Re booted the receiver and pulled the smart card, now I able to record 2 shows again and record one show and watch a live show. But this is not a fix having to reboot it. Waaka above said it is a re occurring problem, plus if it is happening to mine now, is that a software thing still, or a 9500 receiver issue. Any insights or did someone get this fixed please reply.

Thank you for your question. This situation can occur because of overlapping recordings. If there are two recordings in progress on the 9500, you will not be able to watch a live channel. If one recording is ending and another starting, you will not be able to watch a live channel. It is a function of the receiver itself and requires careful programming of recordings. There is no smart card on the 9500.

Hi dks, I beg to differ on the smart card on the Bell 9500 receiver. I have the Home PVR 9500 receiver, the smart card is located on the side. I pulled it yesterday, I can provide pictures of the receiver and the smart card location for others if needed.  We understand how to record, that is not the issue, the second tuner is not there, the receiver does not recognize 2 tuners until you do a reset of the receiver, as explained in previous posts above. I was just wondering with those who has had this issue resolved it. It is not my LNB changed that out as well as the cable.

Thank you. I have three 9500 receivers and been a Bell Satellite TV and ExpressVu subscriber for twenty years. I was also, briefly, a Shaw subscriber. I have never used or found or had to replace any smart cards on the 9500 receiver. Thank you for describing the location. I have responded with my own experience of the 9500 receiver, where it does appear that a tuner disappears when recordings overlap. I have never had to reboot the receiver; the fix in the situation I describe is to stop one recording in the overlap. You are correct that this is not an LNB or cable issue but an apparent quirk of the receiver.

I had the same situation, upon checking the signal, I noticed receiver input #2 was only showing 58% of signal strength compared to 100% on receiver input #1.  So any shows scheduled to record from input #2 were pixalated or blank.  Seems the receiver was at fault and needed to be replaced.  Wiring was all good and replacement receiver showed 100% signal coming into both inputs.
