Connecting PVR to home theater system

Hi everyone. This is my first post.

At the moment, I have an HDMI cable going from my Bell PVR to my receiver and then to my TV. The audio is handled with a fiber optic cable from my TV to my receiver. Everything looks and sounds great. My receiver is an older Denon bought in 2006. It still works great!

Problem Each time I turn on the TV (Samsung QLED, 4 years old), I need to select the Source signal from the TV menu, even though my TV is configured to use the last chosen signal – 99% of the time, the Bell PVR. Should I connect the Bell PVR to the TV first and then out to my receiver? Would this stop the TV from asking me each time as to which source signal to use? Many thanks!

Good Day & thank you for posting your question.

You should connect the HDMI cable from the Bell HD PVR receiver directly in to your TV.  Your Bell remote should be programmed to turn on your Samsung TV & Bell HD PVR.  You will need to change your Samsung TV audio output settings on the TV to select to an external sound output. E.g. optical receiver, etc. Connect the optical cable from your Samsung TV to your Denon audio receiver.

Depending on the age & model of your Samsung TV,  you may have a built in device connection manager that auto recognizes your external equipment. Check the back of your tv to see if you also have auto power switch on the back that will control your Denon on / off power. Your TV also needs to be configured to select the last device connected.

Please refer to Samsung TV setup instructions & your Denon audio receiver for further connection details.

Take care & Enjoy!

Hi Welsh,

Many thanks for chiming in. While waiting for a reply, I did exactly as you said and it worked perfectly! I don't see an Auto Power switch on the back of the TV but that's not a deal breaker. Thanks again for the help! Stay well 😉.
