Fibe TV app on demand video quality with Apple TV

Is anyone else experiencing video quality issues when playing on demand content from some Corus owned channels in the Fibe TV app on an Apple TV? I’ve noticed this with HGTV and History on demand. Video playback starts in decent HD quality and downgrades to poor DVD quality a second or two later. It doesn’t happen with BBC Earth, Discovery, or Animal Planet on demand. Those on demand channels seem to play fine in HD quality. It also seems specific to the Fibe TV app on the Apple TV. I tried playing the same HGTV on demand content in the Fibe TV app on my Android TV and via airplay from an iPad. All good in HD quality. Just not the Fibe TV app on either of my Apple TVs.

Hey Community,

Thank you for all your participation. We have confirmed there is a known issue affecting Airplay streaming in some instances. Apple has pushed an update to their software on Smart TVs that resolves this issue. Once you have received the update to v1.37.0, you should not experience further streaming issues.

If you have received the update, and are still experiencing streaming issues, please let us know.

Thanks!

Hey @nightheron. Thanks for your post, and welcome to the Community.

Thanks for all of the detailed troubleshooting that you've done.

Can you confirm what model/version of Apple TV you have.

Thanks for the reply 🙂

I have an Apple TV 4K Gen 1 and Gen 2 both running the latest tvOS 15.3. It is set to automatic updates so it should have the latest version of the Fibe TV app as well. I tried watching some HGTV content on demand again this evening and it will start in HD quality for a second or two and then drop to poor quality, like YouTube compressed 480p quality.

any conclusion?

No. Bell thought it was a problem with my WiFi. My Apple TV is connected to my HH4000 by ethernet and gets 930 megabit up and down from speed tests. Nonetheless, I reset my HH4000 anyways because I changed the administrator password some time ago and couldn’t remember it. It made no difference.

The problem seems to be in the Fibe TV app itself for Apple TV. I should clarify that it affects only the on demand video and not the linear broadcasts. The linear broadcasts of History and HGTV play fine in HD quality. As does on demand video from Bell Media channels and BBC Earth.

Maybe u can try to reinstall the app and see if there’s any difference.
