No audio on TCL smart TV when connected to my 6500 Satellite receiver

Hello, we just installed a new TCL smart TV. It works except for when it’s on our satellite, it has no sound.

I called Bell and they weren’t much help - they seemed to think it was an issue with the remote. However even manually changing the volume on the TV does nothing when on the satellite.

We have the 6400 satellite.

Any help would be much appreciated thank you.

Hey there @Looking4sound,
Welcome to the Bell Community 🙂
Thank you for trying out the different troubleshooting suggestions posted in the thread.

Which model of TCL TV do you have? Is the 6400 receiver plugged directly into your TV, or is there third party equipment between the two? What type of HDMI cord are you using?

A few other things that you can try :

  • Set up the 6400 receiver on a different TV set to see if the Audio works.
  • Test with a Premium HDMI cable, and try different HDMI ports on your TV.
  • If you are using any third party equipment plug the receiver directly into your TV instead.
  • Factory reset your TV.

Hello, no we couldn’t figure it out! We tried everything and had both a TCL technician, and a bell technician come out. After the TCL technician couldn’t fix it, they refunded our money.

TCL TV does not encode the audio signal from the bell satellite, just the video. I have a 6400 satellite receiver. things ive tried:

- messed with the satellite PCM/Line In the receiver menu settings and tried all of them

- tried every different audio setting in the TV sound settings

- the TV works with everything else HDMI related except for the bell receiver (laptop works fine plugged in HDMI)

the only way i was able to get audio was using RCA cables directly to a separate speaker monitor, but doing that is pretty ridiculous considering the HDMI should just encode the audio properly. Ive seen some other posts about this and want to spread the word if others are having problems. Im open to suggestions but i've literally tried everything. TCL TVs just might not work with bell satellite receivers.

Thanks for your comments. Just to clarify, you used RCA cables from the Bell receiver to what kind of a speaker monitor? An AV amplifier and speakers? A sound bar? That suggests that perhaps the audio out of the receiver is correct but not being decoded by the TV. There are no RCA jacks on the TV?

Yes its a digital audio decode issue in the TV. And No the TCL TV i have has no RCA inputs, only optical and HDMI. I used the audio RCA cables and plugged them directly into two speaker monitor (Rocket KRK 5s) because they have RCA inputs on the back of them. No AV amp was needed for these speakers but it depends on the model you have. You could definitely do it with a sound bar (As long as it has RCA audio inputs) and that is probably the best option considering you can use a remote to mute and control the volume level directly through the sound bar.

Hi @kieran
Thank you for your post and welcome to the Community.
Are you able to share the model number of your television and the firmware version?
Does your receiver volume work when hooked up to a different television (if you're able to test)?
Looking forward to hearing back.
