Restarting programs when another program goes overtime?

NFL football seems to take over the Canadian stations mostly these days.  I tried to restart CTV news at 6pm last night, but NFL football went about 40 minutes overtime.  When I try to restart the 6pm news, it shows the football game and then you have to wait for the game to finish.  Does anyone else know how to bypass the overtime show to restart the news.  Very frustrating.  Thank you.

Thank you for your question. Short answer is "you can't" restart the news, because it's not being broadcast. In the NFL season on CTV, if the game runs over, it runs over. Advertisers pay a lot of money for the eyeballs on their commercials during football games and that means the news doesn't run.

The solution, at least for CTV Toronto, is to tune to CP24. The local (Toronto) news runs at 6:00 PM as scheduled. You can't watch it full screen, but you can watch the news.
