Fraud Alert: Phone Call Offering a New Modem

I received a strange phone call this morning. The number was a local call. When I picked up, the computer voice said they were calling from Bell and Bell was upgrading all lines to fibre. The voice offered a new modem for this new service and asked me to press 3 to enter my account information.

Nope. Goodbye.

First, I have Bell fibre and have had it for the last 18 months. Second, I have the latest modem, the Giga Hub. Finally, Bell doesn't ask for my account credentials on a cold call.

Beware. Never, ever give your account information to an unsolicited caller like that. Stay safe, friends.

Is anyone getting phone calls from "Bell" regarding Internet? Is Bell upgrading Internet and does Bell normally call people or is a scam?

Not sure what they are upgrading, but likely a scam. In my area when fibre was rolled out, they put flyers in the mailboxes.

Good Day @Phantomsdad

This was not Bell calling. It was a fraudster trying to scam you. Were you expecting an upgrade to your Internet or replacement modem, etc.? You did the right thing by hanging up.

Never share any personal information with anyone you do not know or trust! Do not open web links or messages in emails or text messages!

Reputable companies such as Bell, banks, utilities & highly regarded services & institutions do not send you messages or make calls such as this! They do not call you asking to provide personal information. Hang up! Report the fraud! Delete!

Next time, if you are unsure, then call Bell! It is far better to be safe than sorry!

Subject: Scam Call Imitating Bell Canada – Attempt to Access My Home

Dear Bell Canada,

I would like to report a scam call I received today from someone claiming to represent Bell. The caller stated that Bell has installed new fibre lines in the area and that they needed to come into my home to upgrade my internet and replace my router.

The individual attempted to disguise their accent, but I could clearly identify it as an Indian accent. When I asked for verification—specifically my name and account number—the caller abruptly ended the call. This raised immediate red flags, especially considering the high volume of scam calls targeting customers these days.

I’m sharing this information in hopes that Bell can investigate the issue further and take measures to warn and protect other customers. If there’s an official way to report such scams or share the phone number used, please let me know and I’ll provide any details I can.

Thank you for your attention and continued commitment to customer safety.

The number that they called from probably won’t help cause some reason when you call back these numbers it doesn’t exist.

Had a call on phone { Bell Canada on screen but no number listed) and the person stated my Bell services and offered faster internet speed promotion. They then stated that the modem has to be updated to get this promotion. That is when I hung up the phone. I got thinking about this. They new my name and the services and what I was paying. Was this a legit call from Bell. If so......why would they do this knowing about all the scams going on these days. Anyone out there experience this type of call?

I just received a call from a local number, no name, that started as a recording and moved to a live person indicating Bell would be in the area to replace our router in an upgrade to Fibre. The fraudster said an appointment time would be booked 4-5 days out because they are so busy. Ahhh we have Fibre already.
After some harmless questions he asked me to go to my router and give details off the equipment.  I don’t think so!
Ended the call immediately.
Never give info to an incoming like this.

I just got automated claiming to be from Bell telling me that the fibre optics cables were soon to be in our neighbourhood and to press 1 to connect to a rep who would get me a new router. Having seen no action in the area and knowing that the area already is too big for the lines available I hung up without pressing 1.

Funny that.  This a year later and I just got the same call.  Sounds official and I would like high speed, but it is just a scam

Just had a call from Bell. Automated message saying Bell has now ugraded to fibre. It offered me  free upgrade to a new router. I had to hit 1 or 2 (I forget) to get schedule for delivery? . I did not do this! Just hung up.

We already have Bell Fibe FTTH and we have a 4000 Hub.

Presumably this was another scam? Calling number was from our area code. (613). Presumably not from Bell.

Just got that same call 14 months later - they never give up so, unfortunately, they must have some degree of success. Same situation - already have fibre with Giga Hub router so also just hung up.
Stay alert, stay safe!!
