Giga Hub Installation upgrade from an "I-240-G" + "Home Hub 2000"

I just received my Giga Hub upgrade by delivery.

The installation instruction explain how to install the "Giga hub", if you are upgrading from a "home hub 3000" modem which expects all the wires are together.

My current setup is a fiber optic cable going to an "Alcatel-Lucent I-240-G" beige box.  I have an 15 meter internet cable from the "Alcatel-Lucent I-240-G" box to my  "Home Hub 2000" box.  Then my  "Home Hub 2000" connects to my home ethernet and TV boxes.

Is the "Giga hub" supposed to replace both my "Alcatel-Lucent I-240-G" and my "Home Hub 2000" boxes?

Well, that was a poor installation they performed. They should have put the Fibre router close to the Home hub 2000 location and moved all the connections over to the fibre router as you don't need the home hub 2000 in that setup. All that would have been required would have been a slightly longer fibre cable, easy to do when they pulled it.

The way you had it hooked up would have been double NAT and not the best solution.

The easiest to extend the network cables would be to purchase extension cables. Best solution would be to relocate the fibre cable to where the new hub needs to go, but it would need to be long enough when they installed it. For my installation I had the technician coil up a bunch of extra fibre on the ceiling, so if I ever need to move the location the cable is long enough to reach the new location directly.

You can get ethernet and phone extension cables from Amazon or another retailer.

Alcatel-Lucent I-240-G seems to be a fibre router. When you say there's an internet cable going from it to a Home hub 2000 box, what type of cable is it and where is it connected on the home hub 2000 box?

I am thinking that might be a phone cable rather than an ethernet cable. It will look very similar, so you have to look where it's currently connected to. I would take a picture of both boxes and the wiring before changing anything, so you can put it back should something not work.

The Giga hub should replace both of the existing boxes, and the fibre cable should directly plug into the Giga hub, so should any phone cable(s). The phone cables should go into the green colored connectors on the giga hub.

If not sure you might want to call tech support, I am sure they can quickly walk you though a setup involving replacement of your 2 boxes with the giga hub modem/router.

Thanks!

Here is the back of the Alcatel-Lucent I-240-G: Alcatel-Lucent I-240-GAlcatel-Lucent I-240-GThe "GE1" port cable is connected to the "WAN" port on the  "Home Hub 2000" box.  Before i cut my phone service, i used to have the phone connected to the "POTS1" port.

The biggest issue i have to replace the two boxes with the Giga HUB is extending all the cables that are currently connected to my home hub 2000 to reach the location of the optical fiber.  This is not a trivial installation.

The instructions indicates that i need to return the old modem within 30 days.  I presume Bell would want both the "Alcatel-Lucent I-240-G"  and the  "Home Hub 2000"?
