HH4000 - Custom DNS for WIFI client

Stephan

Hello everyone,

The custom DNS option does not apply correctly to the WIFI client.

The client receives via DHCP : 192.168.2.1 as well as the second entry of the custom entry.

Is it possible to have a separate option for DHCP configuration ?

Thank you

Hey there @Stephan
Thanks for your post.
You can configure DHCP through your modem GUI (192.168.2.1). Just click Advanced tools and settings, then DHCP (under the Networking section).

Hey there @Stephan, thank you for your reply.
The Home Hub is acting as a DNS relay and is using your custom DNS.

Hi @Stephan,

I don't think there's any way to turn off/disable dns relay on the Home Hubs. You can't assign your own local dns in the configuration.

The solution some people use is to run Pi-Hole as the DHCP server and the local dns server for LAN clients.

I know, but there is no option to specified custom dns server in DHCP options

why do we get first dns server at 192.168.2.1 for client ???? if we specified a custom one in the custom dns section ?

That does not sound right

Hello Patricia, You are right the router is a DNS relay. On the other hand in my case I want to use my own dns which is physically on my local network range 192.168.2.90 This does not work. I suspect: Two DNS cannot have the management of the same segment which in my case is my LAN. It is for this reason that clients under my network should not have the DNS address by default: DNS 1: 192.168.2.1 but 192.168.2.90 The router's DHCP does not specifically configure this option. Big gap.

Thanks for the comments

After wasting enough time with Bell's router.

I decided to purchase another router/wifi and only used connectivity from the Bell router.

I regret the fact that we pay for a service to have optical fiber and Bell is unable to provide us with a decent router. With so-called minimum configuration options for the home.
