Password protect SSD drive that is connected to HH4000

Hello!

I do really enjoy the HH4000 and I am thinking about replacing my old NAS by a simple high speed SSD drive plugged on one of the HH4000 usb ports. I already tested it: that works pretty well with my windows, linux and android devices.

But I access the device pretty easily (roughly just the IP address). Is there any way to secure the access? How can I be sure that it is not be accessed from the internet? I am a nerd but not a security guy 🙂

Thanks!

Good Day & Welcome to the Bell Community Forum.

Yes, you can password protect an SSD drive. This is typically achieved by encrypting the drive, which requires a password to access the data. You can encrypt either an internal or external SSD, and many operating systems offer built-in tools for encryption.

Most manufactures also include security password protection software with the SSD drive. E.g. Western Digital, Seagate, Kingston, etc. Please refer to your manual & the support site for your SSD drive.

Thanks a lot WelshTerrier, I did not think about this option but about a pwd on the HH to access the drive. But your idea of a pwd protection on the drive itself works pretty well.

Thanks again,

Cheers

Thank you for your reaching out in updating the forum with your reply.

More than glad to have been of assistance.

Both methods that I mentioned earlier will provide you with the security that you are looking for on your SSD drive.

Take care.
