Static IP

Could someone please tell me the details around my external IP address? Is it true I have to pay an additional $20 a month for static? On Rogers my IP only changed once and that was after that major outage. I was with them for years.

Good Day & Welcome.

Bell's Home Hub & Giga Hub is a gateway combined modem / router.

Static IPs are not available on residential internet services. If you have a business account, you can add a Static IP on a 3 yr. contract for $40/month.

The best you can do is give your device an "Alias" name perse in settings and reserve an IP address within the DHCP range as shown in your modem; 192-168.2.10 - 192,168.2.254

Take care.

The easiest way to set static IP addresses on LAN side is to set the machine(s) up with an address from the end range of your DHCP pool.

Like 192.168.2.254 and then .253 etc...

You will also need to specify the correct subnet mask when doing that, but that is the easiest way to ensure a device on your LAN has a static IP.

See here for a guide.
