How can I setup VPN on my bell GIGA hub?  Can I do  it or do I need to go to my devices and set each one up?

Hi @hjr007

You can't set up VPN on the hub, afaik. For router-level VPN you'll need to attach and configure a 3rd party router that has this capability. Might be simpler to set up VPN on the LAN devices that need it.

Cheers,

Home Hub 4000 has no abilities to add VPN service(s) directly to the modem.

Hi there @Asking for a friend

Welcome to the Bell community.

You need to install a VPN directly on your device not on the modem.

To install a VPN you typically choose a VPN provider, create an account, download their app/software, and then log in to connect your device to their VPN server.

Please let the community know if you have any other questions.

It cannot be installed on the modem. Instead you install it on the client (computer).

Once installed and connected to the VPN service with the VPN application on your computer, it will tunnel all communications to the VPN server, therefore ensuring all your communications from that computer are secured and your IP and other information not revealed.

The NordVPN Windows client can be downloaded here.

If you have multiple devices you will need to install the proper client on each device, including phones.

I have NordVPN installed on my PC (Ubuntu), but I'd like to install it on my modem. Any help?

There are dozens of devices, it is impractical to install on each, it makes no sense. This is useless router

Did you do research which router is simplest to install or comes with installed VPN?

NordVPN has an extensive list of routers that support NordVPN: NordVPN

ISP provided routers rarely support VPN services. You will have to add a secondary router to your setup if you want VPN setup at a router level.

Hi @kobran

As I wrote on ‎this thread on 06-29-2023, you can't have router-level VPN configured on Bell's gateway modems.

As I also wrote, you can get your own 3rd-party router which has the option for VPN configuration. @Vanadiel has given a link to  NordVPN's list of routers known to work with it's software.

Why are the young so hasty to beg borrow &/or steal for the shiny precious but they've zero motivation to do the basic tasks required to maintain and sustain a functional cursed™ device. I have 10-15 total and as I setup each one I installed whatever no log subscription offshore NO EYES off vpn service I have at the ready or send a add a device dl link from pc to install and setup 1 of many. I have 3  I'm paying for 2 came 1 year included inside other security and Usenet software. Remember, just using a VPN will not hide you from anyone looking at you and your online self. DNS server and other settings need tweaking and maybe.

A reputable VPN service, like Nord VPN, will provide proper VPN services that will not "leak" your public assigned Bell IP or any DNS server requests.

Now that does not mean you are invisible, as Nord VPN does know who you are and where you go. The remote site's however will have no ability to detect you are using a Bell ISP connection.

It also provides secure data connectivity between you and the VPN server, in both directions, so Bell cannot detect what site(s) you are visiting and what comes back.

But again, it does not make you invisible or anonymous.

I used a reputable VPN service from AVG, one of my security solution providers.  When I turn it on, I get a Bell Fibe error message: 1009m18 and no TV.   No sign of of this error message when I Google it.

Are you using the Bell Fibe application?

Yes, on a Lenovo desktop.  Despite every discussion I have read stating that you cannot turn VPN on and use Bell Fibe channels, I figured out a way to get it to work. The trick is to start my AVG VPN app after (not before) running the Bell Fibe app. The error message disappears and I can watch the channels I am paying for.

Don't know anything about AVG VPN services, but it sounds to me like it works because the Bell Fibe application has made the initial handshake outside of the VPN connection.

It's possible it would stop working after a while as it might need to authenticate at regular intervals, you will have to try it and see what happens.

Can you clarify?  I am trying to install NordVPN on my Bell Sagemcom Gigahub router but you are saying I won't be able to.  But above you state "....the remote sites however will have no ability to detect you are using a Bell ISP connection" and "....so Bell cannot detect what sites you are visiting...."  How is the VPN installed if it can't be installed on a Bell router?  I am new to this so don't understand much but are your comments referring to if I have a non-ISP router with the NordVPN installed?
