Wi-Fi Pod Speed Tests

Up until recently I was getting between 300-600 mbps on my POD and Hub over wifi. (I don't have wired connections) However, I am at best getting around 150-200 mbps on my POD now (no change with the Hub, and there was no change to my set up).  I rebooted everything to see if it would make a difference, but it remains the same.    This has been going on for about a week, and measured at different times throughout the day.

When I run the Bell wifi checkup, it is showing a download speed of 1.8 gbps on the hub, and 1.5 gbps on the POD - with a strong signal to all my devices.  That said, I see no difference in the performance of any of my devices. I also note that the Bell wifi app is showing my devices are getting 2-3x the speed that I see when I run Speedtest or Fast.

I am curious as to why the POD speed connectivitiy has dropped in half, and why Bell keeps sending me promotions to upgrade my speed, when I can't even come close to getting the speed I pay for now.

I got back on Wednesday night 03/05/25. Nothing has changed except one modem reboot on 02/26/25. (i'm notified every time my NAS ethernet port goes down from the reboot). I received a follow up call from Bell Technical support 03/06/25 explaining that they still do not have a fix worked out with Plume support. I asked for a more "meaningful" update next Thursday which will be 03/13/25.

if you're reading this, do yourself a favor and ditch your pods if you can afford to! you can find better alternatives for around $200-300, which is what you'd pay for a few pods over the course of a few years.

i'm on my new mesh setup now. hoping i never have to look back to the pods for any reason. check my new speeds:

I thought we could only use the Bell Plume wifi pods?

You can use any of the shelf wireless mesh system, although not all are created equally.

If you want to use another mesh system, there is no reason you can't. There are systems from a variety of manufacturers with a variety of features and price points. They include a router you plug in to the Giga Hub and pods. Do your research and enjoy.

They include a router.... really. How do you bridge that router? Do you have a workaround to the Bell built in WIFI? Oh and why would you bother spending your own money for something you are already paying for?

Why not use Bells? If you don't know you don't know......

Limited functionality, so I use 2 Ubiquity U6+ AP points that are also capable of forming a wireless mesh network.

That and I don't use a home hub, so Bell pods would not work for me.

I am certain you know the answers to all your questions. What are your thoughts? It would be great to hear them.

Still the same response today from Technical Support. Follow-up on march 20.

Can you tell me what setup you have? I have been researching also because we have the Fibe TV receivers also. Cheers!

It's been 3 months since I first raised this issue. If this issue is in fact related to an update done by Plume or Bell, I find it difficult to believe that the problem could not be rectified in 3 months as we all noted a capped speed at the same time.  I suspect there are others issues at play and we will never see the previous speeds.  I have given up and will be accpeting the Rogers winback offer upon completion of my promo, wherein I have now seen 4 price increases!

I noticed at my mother's condo, where she has a simple setup with one 6E Pod and a GigaHub 4000, that the Pod used to connect over WiFi 6E but now does over 5 Ghz.  The Bell TV boxes that connect to the Pod also use 5 Ghz.

Which Mesh solution are you using?
