Blocked Callers are sent directly to voicemail

How do I stop blocked callers from leaving spam voicemail?   I get a 48 second robocall message weekily from the same phone number and I need this to stop.

Why are Blocked Callers even directed to voicemail?  That is simply redirectling a call and NOT BLOCKING.

Can Bell Mobility block a specific 1-888 # or am I going to have to dissable my voicemail?

Telus offers a free screening sevice for this type of harrassment.  How about Bell ?

Thanks.

Good Day.

None of the Bell apps will block callers. Please explain what it is you want to do in further detail.

You can not block unknown caller ID's from the Bell App.

You can "Silence Unknown Callers" in your mobile device Phone settings.

Samsung / Adroid

  • Open the Phone app and go to ⋮ > Settings > Blocked numbers. Tap the toggle switch next to "Unknown" or "Block calls from unknown numbers."
  • To block a specific number in the stock Android phone app, tap the number in your recent calls, and then tap "Block/Report Spam."
  • To block a specific number on Samsung, go to ⋮ > Settings > Blocked calls, enter the number, and then tap "+."

Apple / iPhone

With iOS 13 and later, you can turn on Silence Unknown Callers to avoid getting calls from people you don’t know. This blocks phone numbers that you've never been in contact with and don’t have saved in your contacts list. If you’ve previously texted with someone using their phone number or if a person has shared their phone number with you in an email, a phone call from that number will go through.

To turn on Silence Unknown Callers, go to Settings > Phone, then scroll down, tap Silence Unknown Callers, and turn on the feature. Calls from unknown numbers are silenced and sent to your voicemail, and appear in your recent calls list.

Incoming calls will come through from people that are saved in your contacts list, recent calls list, and from Siri Suggestions to let you know who’s calling based on phone numbers included in your emails or text messages.

If an emergency call is placed, Silence Unknown Callers will be temporarily disabled for the next 24 hours to allow for your iPhone to be reached.

Before you turn on Silence Unknown Callers, make sure you have important contacts saved or you could miss a phone call that you don’t want to miss. The call will still go to voicemail and appear in your recent calls list, but you won’t get a notification while the call is ringing.

Take care.

Blocked Callers

I wish I could give you one simple solution for this ongoing problem, but I can not! You can block callers on your device. You can also hide your caller information.

How to block or unblock my mobile phone number when making an outgoing call (bell.ca)

Unfortunately, you can not control everyone who calls when they display their identity & number that is not blocked.

Today, fraud is prevalent throughout the world in all of our communications tools.

You can block one number today, & fraudsters will spoof you with another number tomorrow that you believe is legitimate.

I have only one piece of advice, say nothing, hang up & move on. There are tools out there today that are advertised that are not fool proof in preventing fraudsters from trying to take advantage of you & steal what they can from you! None of them work..... they are just tools that thieves try to work around!

Some Personal advice:

Do not give out personal information!. Do not reply to unknown caller voicemails! Hang up on unknown callers! Do open unknown links or attachments in Emails, texts, etc .etc. etc.

Caution is the better part of valour! Fraudsters will ultimately get caught! It is just a matter of time!

Thanks, but as I said, "Block this Caller" simply send the caller to voicemail. It does NOT block the call.

It is always the same 1-888 number that calls and deposits a 48 second reccorded message.

Telus offers "Call Control" that effectively stops the ability for a RoboCall to leave a voice message.

Hey there @DWPeg

Welcome to the Community and thanks for your post.

Thanks @WelshTerrier for your input. That will depend on the type of phone that you have, as the block a number feature is controlled in your settings.

Let the Community know if you have more questions.

I don’t wanna change my number, I just want to block a specific user and not just block the contact. I want him to believe my number is not real as it possible to do that through Bell or do I have to fully change my number. It’s a harassment case.

You have pretty well eliminated any of the options I can suggest for you in your post. You have excluded changing your number & device blocking a number. Not much left to offer you in terms of a solution. I wish there was, but there is not.

  1. Change your number ? No
  2. Device Block Contacts / Numbers on your mobile phone. Depending on your mobile device, you can add this number to your device settings. E.g.  Apple: Got to Settings > Phone > Blocked Contacts. E.g.This is not ideal. When you block a phone number or contact, they can still leave a voicemail, but you won't get a notification. Messages that are sent or received won't be delivered. Also, the contact won't get a notification that the call or message was blocked. When you block an email address from Mail, it goes to the trash folder. No
  3. There is also a similar feature for Samsung, Google Pixel, etc. devices. You need to long in to the support site of your device manufacturer for specific instructions on blocking a contact, specific numbers, etc. No

The only for sure method is changing your number & being very discrete in terms of who you give it out to.

Thank you for reaching out to the Bell Community Forum.

Take care.

Saying it’s up to our phone settings is not helpful at all.  Voice mail is totally under Bell’s control.    What is Bell doing about spam in voice mail.    I see very little help from Bell to stop spam numbers from using their systems.  My guess is the company is making money from foreign companies using their lines?

Seems like all the answers here are non answers to the problem that also annoys the heck out me along with no doubt many others. When I block a number it is so it does not intrude on my time any longer or in future but alas I get a voicemail notification every time a blocked number calls that i will need to go through and delete. Why block I may as well just answer and hang up. For Bell being a leading provider they really suk at this process. Blocked callers should be met without the ability to leave a message (which 99.9% don't) same as when they call a disconnected number.

I am getting 1 or 2 voicemail's per day from a spam number that I have blocked.  Their phone number doesn't show up in my call log but there is always a robotic voicemail.  How can I block this number from leaving voicemails? It's driving me crazy.

I have the same issue and cannot find anything helpful from Bell.  If I block a number, I don't want to have it leave a voicemail.  I'm told other providers offer this.

Good Day & Welcome to the Bell Community Forum.

There is no 100% foolproof method, application, workaround, etc. that will eliminate & block calls completely.

To block unwanted callers on Bell Mobility, you can utilize the call blocking feature on your smartphone, which allows you to add specific numbers to a block list. You can also use the suspicious call detection feature to help identify and potentially block suspicious or fraudulent calls. You can "Silence Unknown Callers" in your mobile device Phone settings.

BELL Mobility does not offer Call Control as a feature for cell phones. To the best of my knowledge there are no plans in place to offer call control. I am not aware of any foolproof method that is available today that will stop fraud & spam calls.

Bell has implemented Universal Network-Level Call Blocking (UNCB) to help protect Canadians against certain types of unsolicited calls. UNCB blocks calls that have blatantly inaccurate Call Display information.

Universal Network-Level Call Blocking

Bell introduced a new feature last month Suspicious Call Detection. Suspicious call detection uses AI analytics to monitor incoming calls in real time, and it alerts you about potential spam or fraud, allowing you to decide whether to answer incoming calls by labelling the suspicious ones. It is automatically available for all Bell Mobility customers at no extra charge and cannot be turned off.

But you did not answer the question properly. You should have flat out said from the beginning there is no way to block a caller from leaving voicemail with Bell. Done.
