Signal strength - Medicine Hat, Alberta

I live in the city and I only have one to two bars at the best of times on my signal strength. Wanna know why?

I have done some further research into your question. My favourite cell site mapper shows all the Telus and Bell cell sites in Medicine Hat. Bell uses Telus cell sites west of the Manitoba - Ontario border while Telus uses Bell web sites east of that border. I count 14 cell sites in Medicine Hat itself.

That being said,

  • What is the make and model of your phone?
  • Do you have cellular roaming turned on?
  • If you have 5G, is your phone set to 5G Auto?
  • What is your Network Selection set to?
  • What is the result of a speed test?
  • You can verify Bell's cellular coverage on the Bell Coverage Map .

I am happy to continue the conversation, with more specific information.

Hey there @Pj357 ,

Welcome to the Community and thanks for your post and details.

For the Community to be better able to assist you, could you please provide further details as to the issues you're experiencing?

Do keep in mind that many factors can limit signal strength; topography, environmental conditions, line of sight to towers, types of buildings in your area, etc.

  • Do you know of anyone else in the area having similar issues?
  • Have you tried changing the network settings in your phone? Sometimes preventing your phone from searching for 5G can free up resources to focus on LTE instead.
  • What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?
  • Have you gotten in touch with our technical support team to open a ticket?

Thank you for your reply. What speed test did you use? What units of measurement are listed in the speed test? Does your phone fall back to LTE and 4G? Are you seeing any symptoms of a low speed connection such as slow uploading and downloading of email, surfing the net or watching videos? Focusing on one factor such as a speed test doesn't take into account the many variables involved in radio transmission and reception. I have found if I am more than a few hundred meters from a cell tower, my own drops to LTE. Is that your experience?
