insurance deductible

• what IS the universal percentage taken from the total price of the device purchased, that determines each deductible on an insurance claim? eg. when i picked out my new device, the retail value was $1,000. but upon competition of everything @ the till, i recieved $300 off! so, with the device being $600 @ that point, how can a $256 deductible be justified?! 3 months in use & it breaks down...& then THAT?!?
