why are my texts being received like this? tëstïngŸãgãïnŸ

KariK

Every text I'm sending shows normal to me, but is being received on the other end, whether its to Canada or to USA with extra characters like this:  tëstïngŸãgãïnŸ

support at this point hasnt been able to help, hoping someone has encountered this

I'm using a Google Pixel 4a, just the default texting app

*UPDATE* adding an emoji anywhere in the text line fixes the issue, without an emoji all texts look as above

Hi everyone,

Welcome to the Community and thanks for your posts.

We thank you all for taking the time to let us know of the issue and providing tips that worked for you.

As @RobF mentioned, it was indeed a widespread issue and has now been resolved.

In the instance that you're still faced with the issue, you can try the following;

  • Deleting the text chain and starting a fresh one
  • Resetting your network settings
  • Restarting your phone to have a fresh connection to the network

Please do keep the Community updated if you're still faced with the issue or if it's now resolved.

having same issue....androids get bunch of random letters and iphone get ?? (or could be provider related android is videotron and iphone is telus)

It does work when adding an emoji, called bell and don't seemed to be aware of anything going on, but its definitely a general sms issue.

I just spoke to Bell.  They claim they are aware of the issue now and suspect it was caused by the latest iphone update.  They said they are working on it but could not give me any kind of concrete answer.

Good Day & Welcome to the Communiyt Forum.

Have you verified that your OS & all of your apps are up to date? Have you completed a full power off / on of your device?

Checked your language settings? If not, verify that a language setting has not been added or changed on your device. If this is not the cause, I would also check that a language has not been altered or added to one of your apps. E.g. Messaging, etc. When you add additional languages to your system settings, your phone will detect that language and customize content.

Have a look at the following:

Change the language your phone uses:

Open your phone's Settings app. > System > Languages > System Languages.

To add a language: Select > Add a language >  Choose the language that you want to use. Select & drag your language to the top of the list.

To remove a language. > At the top, Select > More.  Select > Remove. Select > a language. Select > Delete

Change the language setting for a specific app:

On your Android phone, open your Settings app. Select > System. > Languages > App languages.

Select the app that you want to change. Select >  a language. (To change the user language setting, the app must support language selection.)

If none of the above mentioned suggestions resolves your problem, I can only advise you to consider backing up your personal data & performing a factory reset.
