Bell FibeTV App on Roku?

BobGohd

Why is there no FibeTV App for the Roku?   I can't watch Bell in the bedroom, because the TV is a Roku tv.

Does Bell have any plans for a Roku app?

Great news!

The Bell Fibe TV app is now available on select Roku Smart TVs.  For more information including compatible models, check out Support for the Fibe TV app on Roku TVOpens in a new tab or window.

Hi @InOttawa

Bell isn't actively blocking Roku, but likely has no plans to align its Fibe tv app with it. Out-of-the-box new TVs like TCL, which in the past used "RokuOS", are now Android-based.

Bell's own Streamer (an Android device like Chromecast) will work on a Roku TV.

You will be able to install the Fibe TV app on your Fire TV stick.

There are numerous alternatives that can be substituted to allow for Fibe TV streaming. I have included many of them in the list below. Most televisions today have multiple HDMI inputs allowing you to connect an external  device that includes the Fibe TV app.

Supported devices:

  • Bell Streamer
  • Android smartphones and tablets (OS 7.0+)
  • Apple smartphones and tablets (iOS 12+)
  • Apple TV, 4th generation or higher
  • AirPlay on Apple TV and AirPlay-enabled TVs
  • All versions of ChromecastTM
  • Android TV: Sony Android TV, nVIDIA Shield, Xiaomi Mi Box
  • Amazon Fire TV (Basic Edition or higher)
  • Computer: Google Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge and Safari* browsers by visiting fibetv.ca

Thank you for your input.

Take care.

Roku's pretty popular.... looks like Bell might be caught playing catch up here.

It could be possible in the future. You can also try casting or Airplay to your Roku TV from your phone or tablet.

As I asked in the subject line. Roku TVs are very popular, why is there no app for them yet? Time to get modern and keep up to date.

I'm planning to subscribe to the FibeTV app, and add the streamer device: all part of the offering to existing Bell Internet customers.

I have a TCL/Roku TV (the "Roku OS" is built in). If I connect the streamer is to an HDMI port port will it bypass the "RokuOS"? Or am I out of luck?

Thanks!

It will bypass.  I have Google TV Chromecast connected to my TCL/Roku. On the Google t. Remote I hit power, then input button and it switches it to the Google TV. Works great.

Thanks @BobGohd !

Good to know I should be ok with the app and Bell Streamer.

I know that I can factory reset the TCL and turn off the Roku features, but I want to keep the Roku channels I watch.

Hey Community,

Thank you all for sharing your interest in the Fibe TV app and Roku.

We are always evaluating the devices that we support and Roku is a device that may be considered in the future.

Consideration for the future is appreciated .

There's an additional wrinkle for those of us with embedded Roku ("Roku TV"): the current rollout of TCL TVs.  Roku is being replaced by Android as the OS. Perhaps the Bell FibeTV app will work directly with it.

It will, the Bell Fibe App works very well with Android TV.   A friend has a recent TCL TV with Android OS and the Bell Fibe App works for him.

I have an older Roku TV, and on these older models you can bypass the "RokuOS" when you plug in a streamer like Chromecast. Have a look at @BobGohd 's post from April, in this thread.

Currently the new Roku TVs have Android OS out-of-the-box. The proprietary OS has been phased out in favour of Android.

Given that, it may be too late for a Bell Fibe Channel on Roku, but I wish you the best of luck. Keep us posted on how it's going.

When will Bell Fibe TV allow casting to Roku sticks and Roku TV? All casting services are disallowed. All my TV’s are either smart TVs with a Roku or I plug in my Roku sticks. Bell has made deals with other TV streaming services. Bell needs to do it’s customers a kindness and stop blocking Roku.
