On occasion the recording light does not come when recording 9400 receiver, it records but light is not lit. What does this indicate?

The recording light is intended to let you that the receiver is recording the program that you have chosen at the specific scheduled time. It can disappear if it's satellite signal is briefly interrupted by weather, nature, etc. You can check for a loose connection at the receiver or something in the vicinity of your dish that might be impeding your satellite signal.
If everything appears to be copacetic, then I would not worry about the light condition. The important issue is whether it is recording the selected program & that you are not encountering dead spots, pixelation video or sound breaking up on your recordings.
If you encounter any further issues in your recordings, then you may wish to contact Bell Satellite TV Tech Support & they will be able to complete further diagnostics on your 9400.
