FibeTV Apple TV slow

Several people including myself are reporting the FIbeTV app on Apple TV is slow to respond to commands.  This has started happening with any changes by end users.  Is Bell looking into this?  Right now the app is useless.  Yes - app deleted and reinstalled, Apple TV rebooted and even OS upgraded.

Hi @Pdu
Are you by chance able to attempt to watch content on your Apple TV (A1625 with tvOS 26.2) from the Fibe TV app and record it so we can see what is happening?
Looking forward to hearing back.

I had an issue with this where the FibeTV app on my AppleTV was very laggy switching channels and loading the guide.

I discovered that adblocking on my network using pihole was causing it.    The FibeTV app reaches out to numerous sites to send performance/diagnostic data and these were appearing on my blocklist.     After explicitly whitelisting these, the app is very responsive on my Apple TV 4K.

No adblocking here at a network level.  I too have a 4K device and A2169 (64GB) and there are no issues but see significant slowness with the other older A1625 (32GB).  Based on what I am seeing, there does seem to be correlation with 32GB devices.   I don't doubt that adblocking is likely contributor in your case and worth checking out but as others in this thread have shown, there appears to be an issue with 32GB apple devices running the FibeTV app.

Hi @D3rd
Do you have the ability to take a video and share it with the Community, so we can see what it is that your experiencing on your A1625? Also, can you reconfirm which version your AppleTV is on (12.3, 23.6 or other)?

Apologies. I have not had a chance to record what is happening.  However, I can confirm this phenomenon only happens on my 2 A1625 Apple TVs.   One other observation:   When entering the Bell FibeTV app on the affected Apple TVs, I ‘double-click’ the TV button on the remote and flick the app up (closing it) and re-open it, it seems the response is much better.  Still slower than my 4K Apple TVs, but more responsive.  Hope this helps a bit.

Ah got it.  My older A1625 was always slow with it.  It was usable but very annoying.   I retired it, and have the latest A2843.

my issue was different with network level adblocking due to either a change in the blocklists or how the FibeTV app communicates.

I apologize, but I do not have access to the A1625 Apple TV with 32GB at this time.  I was hoping that @Pdu could do this as it appears that he is seeing this on multiple devices.

Hi @techdan,

can you share the sites you whitelisted?

thank you!

Sure, here’s some of the main ones with newrelic being accessed most of the time.   I might have missed a few.

app-analytics-services.com

Hi all,

There's been some recent compatibility fixes between AppleTV tvOS 26.3 and Fibe TV app, so I wanted to check in to see if you're still experiencing these issues? If so, please provide your AppleTV model, firmware version and the Fibe TV app version (please ensure this is up to date with the latest firmware).

Additionally, if able to, please provide a video of what exactly it is you're experiencing for slowness.

I have the a2643 and Even with new os 26.4, the problem still exist

Hi,

Apologies was unable to reliably record a failed session.  Since this exchange late January I simply started each Apple TV Bell Fibe TV session by closing all open applications on the Apple TV and reopening the Bell Fibe TV App.  It was still a bit sluggish but workable.   Also, in the past few days I note that the application performed much better from start.  I see that the Bell Fibe TV has been updated to 26.11.1.1-released Mar 22, 2026 with my TvOS at 26.3 Maybe this upgrade has helped improve performance?  I am now upgrading TvOS to 26.4 and will see if any further changes.

Thank you so much for the solution, I confirm having Ads blocking with Unifi also impact hugely the performance of the Bell TV Fibe app on Apple TV. After disabling Ads blocking - performance go back to "normal".

@BellNick I think it's NOT normal to have this type of impact when ads blocking is enabled. All telemetry things need to be transparent for the users and this is not what we see here. At launch the app is snappy, but after 2 or 3 hours - huge lags appearing in all operations (guide, recording, backward/forward, open a channel, go back to the guide...). Force Quit (not close but Force Quit) the app and relaunch it resolve temporarily the issue. So, you have clearly an issue with telemetry and/or how the unsuccessful API calls are managed. Can you fix the issue please?

Edit 1: same experience with iOS app, but less visible
Edit 2: I use the last available version at this time

After some days, I can confirm whitelisting only mobile-collector.newrelic.com is sufficient to fix the degraded performance over time.

Some research demonstrate NewRelic is not optimal for Kotlin/KMP and there is no official SDK available (Fibe TV app is a Kotlin app). So my assumption of bad management of failed requests and infinite retries seems like possible.

No ad blocker here and I have the problem.   Bell need to fix this
