Backup function missing from Bell Home Hub 3000/4000

I just upgraded from HH3000 to HH4000.  After I did all my config, the HH3000 had a BACKUP and RESTORE  button/function to save my config. This is obviously needed if you have to factory reset or get a new HH3000 ... you could RESTORE/upload your saved settings. Now, after configuring and setting up my HH4000 ... the BACKUP/RESTORE button/functionality is missing.

Again - in case the HH4000 router needs to be factory reset or replaced, all my settings would be lost and I would have to configure/set up each screen/function from scratch ... with no ability to RESTORE/upload saved configuration.

I am correct? or am I missing something?

If I am correct ... how do we get the BACKUP/RESTORE functionality added to the HH4000?

Hi there @riggor9999. Thanks for your post, and welcome to the Bell community.

You're right, the backup/restore function on the HH4000 is no longer available.

Thank you for confirming. This is a basic function that needs to be added back into the router (like the HH3000 has). What is the method to open a ticket/request to have it added back?

Saving/restoring configuration file is a basic/standard function that is included in all devices that are configurable.

Hey @riggor9999
We appreciate your interest in this feature. However, it is no longer available.

I understand however my question is ... What is the method to open a ticket/request to have it added back?

Thank you

I agree with riggor9999. I have been a long time user and customize my IP addresses and a backup/restore is a required function.  If not via the device, at least via the web interface.   You cant upgrade hardware as I did from HUB3000 to GigaHub and not give your customers the same features.   I would like to escalate this reasonable request.

Little late to the party, but It's definitely a function that is needed.  I have multiple settings done in my modem/router so a factory reset or, like today, an upgrade to the 4000 upload the config will save time.

Another dumb move from Bell for removing useful function for those who want more from there gear!

Does anyone remember the "Backup" feature of the Home Hub 3000?

On the Home Hub 3000 modem, there used to be a "Backup" option to save the configuration (Feb 2020) to one's computer. It does not appear anymore.

What happened to the "Backup"? How do I backup my configuration? I have invested a significant amount of time entering device names, I don't want to have to redo all that the next time we do a hard reset.

I believe that option has been removed. As far as I am aware, there's no way to backup the home hub 3000 configuration.

Good Day & Welcome to the Bell Community Forum.

This function has not been available & was discontinued a number of years ago. I can offer up as a suggestion an alternative that will work just as well or even much better.

Log in to your modem and capture a screen shot or a recording of all the information that you would need if you needed to do a factory reset on your modem. Most computers, tablets, & devices have a screen capture or record tool that will allow you to save your settings. E.g. Snipping Tool, etc.

Thank you for posting your question.

Take care.

Screenshots is not a practical solution. I have a dozen devices whose MAC addresses are converted to computer names. I have to re-type all those names? Ridiculous. How is this "much better"? Why on earth would Bell discontinue this useful function?

Screenshots are always an option, but there are so many reasons to have a backup/restore function (for example, modem died/replacement) - it's IT 101. Shame on the developer or the Q/A team that took it out to deem it unnecessary.

Good Day.

You may not like the answer that I provided to your question, but it is what it is. I suggested this to you as another alternative. It is not the end all or be all, but it is a quick fix for you to at least have a copy of your modem settings.

As I mentioned in my earlier reply; this function has not been available & was discontinued a number of years ago.

It is a feature worth consideration & does warrant further investigation by the development. I will leave this with you to pursue.

I do not work for Bell. I am only one member trying to assist another member in answering their question or solving their problem.

I can only assume that it is much easier to just shoot the messenger.

Thank you for your reply.

Take care.

I apologize - I thought you were Bell.

I originally posted this 08-21-2022 05:45 PM . It just keeps resurfacing as people have the same question all the time.

I asked Bell how to put in a development request - no response.

We all are taking screenshots - that's not the issue .... it's the lack of key functions that is surprising / disappointing.

Good Day.

@riggor9999 Thank you for your quick reply. I have moved on since your previous reply & it is now forgotten. If you are wishing to make developmental change, then you need to:

  1. Describe the issue, what it is today.
  2. What you would like to see changed in detail.
  3. Why do you wish this change is made?
  4. Pros & Cons
  5. Expected outcome. End result

Keep it simple. Stress the importance & benefits to Bell & all of its customers.

Write it up. Post it on the forum and ask one of the moderators to review & forward it on to the developmental team for consideration.

Keep in mind a change of this magnitude is not a quick fix. It needs to be analyzed, costed out, looked at for service implications, the impacts, tested, etc. etc. etc.

This will not happen overnight. It is a starting point only!

Thank you once again.

Take care.
