Anyone else having an issue with email on their iPhone? I access my email and delete unwanted/read emails and then empty the trash bin. However the next time I open mail all the emails I have previously deleted are back in my inbox.

Hey @Mocap

When you delete an email from your iPhone it can either delete it on your device or on the server.

First thing is confirm your phone setting is set to delete on the server. To do this go to:

Settings > Mail > Accounts > Select the email account > Accounts > Advanced > Under “Mailbox behaviours” click Deleted Mailbox > Make sure t check mark is on “Deleted” under “ON THE SERVER”.

This should fix your problem. If it persists I would recommend deleting your email account from your phone and re-adding it.

Hope that works and keep us updated.

Hi @Mocap,

Thanks for your post.

In order for the Community to help, we would need a little more info on what type of email application you are currently using.

Here are a few tricks that might help with your concern.

- Verify to ensure all apps and iOS are updated to their latest versions.

- Delete the app and redownload it.
- Log out and log back in.

Try those out and let us know if it helped.☺

I am using the Bell email platform and I have the most recent IOS 15.1. As stated I have repeatedly deleted, emptied and restarted the program but the same thing happens. So very annoying.

  • Update: I stopped at a Bell store and asked if they could help. His answer: well you could mark them as read. OMG really?

Thank you Sam for the detailed steps. I did confirm that all the boxes were checked as mentioned. I then took the time to delete the 300+ emails and made sure to empty the trash. I then. Loses the application, re-opened and miraculously there was only 1 new email. Unfortunately 2 hours later I opened mail, and all 300+ emails were back in the Inbox. I guess my next step will be to try to delete the mail account and try to reinstate.

For the past week, every time I delete emails, they show up again a few minutes or hours later.  I have made sure my settings show delete from server and I have deleted account and set up again.  Nothing is working.

I have a sympatico.email account that I access from from my windows laptop (originally & only occasionally now) and frequently from my iPhone. The problem is that when I delete an email on the iPhone, it does not get deleted from the laptop view. So I have to clean up in both places.  I'd like to delete from one device only. Wondering if there are some steps or settings I need to follow or change?

Every time I delete an email from Outlook or from Bell Webmail the emails reappear in the inbox.

If I check the deleted folder, the emails I deleted are there multiple (number of times I deleted them) times.

I haven't made any changes to the settings.

I have verified that my settings for deleting emails is as noted on my ipad but this does not resolve . I am having the exact issue as noted here from 2021 and currently have over 1300 emails in my inbox.  I fix it and it seems to bring more back to the inbox - very frustrating

Hi there @lazyacres
Thank you for your post and welcome to the Community.
Are you able to share which device / browser you are using?
Are you able to verify if your email is set up for IMAP or POP?
Looking forward to hearing back.

It’s IMAP and I’m using it from my IPad email account

Good day @AFy29

Thank you for reaching out to the Bell Community 🙂

Can you clarify what type of email program you are using to retrieve your Bell email (e.g. Outlook)? Does this happen when you access Bell webmail directly?
