Email images disappear when forwarding email

I receive emails with images but when I forward the email, the images disappear.  I called Bell repair and it was suggested I clear my history - done, and to only use Webmail to access my account - done. I have checked all my email settings and they are all correct.   I am using either MS Edge or Firefox and have tried using both a laptop and a desk computer.

I also note that the email page format has changed and no longer shows a toolbar. It is just a plain message with basic, To; Subject; Send; Save; Options, Discard.

I used Outlook to access my email and everything is there and images display and can be forwarded, however, Outlook is difficult to work with.

How do I get Bell to check the server at their end and reset or whatever needs to be done to correct this problem.

Hi @Dinah and @BellNick

I did what @WelshTerrier said and it did not work for me as well.  However I went into Settings/mail settings.  I unchecked the box  "insert original e mail text to reply" and checked the box "compose message in rich text format" and Vola! I am able to send images again

Thank you for your questions. I suspect that somewhere in webmail is a setting to include images in forwarded e-mails. It is in Outlook. That is a client side issue and not a server side issue, however.

Good Day.

I completed a full test this morning using the exact same scenario as you mentioned in your post using Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, & Mozilla Firefox.

I normally use a web client, Microsft Outlook or Safari mail. I created an email & attached an image. Sent this email, received it, & forwarded it & received it again with the proper detail including the image.

The Toolbar in each browser appeared as it should. The Webmail pages displayed as they should.

This is not a Bell Webmail server issue. This appears to be a Microsoft Windows, Browser or Sync issue.

Which version of Microsft Windows are you using?

I can only suggest you try the following:

  1. Verify  Microsft Windows & MS Edge are up to date with the most current software. If not, then you need to do so. Then restart your computer.
  2. Start by working with one browser only on one computer. Are you Syncing betweein your laptop & desk computers?  Go to > Settings.  Sync > Turn off all of the radio buttons to off.
  3. Clear your Cache, cookies, History & Data. Close your browser. Restart you computer.
  4.  To access Bell Webmail, open this link in MS Edge: https://webmail.bell.net/
  5. Log in with your credentials. What do you see? You shouild see Muy Accounton the left. Main ToolTool Bar above & Inbox Toolbar below this. If you not see this, log out & close the web page.
  6. Go to MS Edge browser settings. Select > Reset settings. This will return MS Edge to its deafult settings.
  7. Close MS Edge & restart your computer. This should solve your problem.
  8. Follow the above steps on your Laptop computer as well.

Using Bell email : Bell email features

Take care.

Thanks for the reply. I did al the steps but fortunately, it did not work.  The problem is not with the main/opening page of the emails showing Tool bar, Inbox, etc.  That all shows/showed as it always did.  Problem is when I open an email with images and try to forward.  The images are no longer in the email.   Using Compose - the email format itself has no tool bars etc. and is just a plain page with a few headings.  I will have to take into a computer shop as I am not techy enough to fix the problems.

Hi Dinah

My tool bar is there, but I have the same problem trying to forward images.  It used to be easy to do before but now it is not working.  Were you ever able to find a solution

Hi there @JR2
Thank you for your post.
Are you able to share how you are accessing your email (Bell Webmail, third party client)?
What browser are you using and have you tested a different browser / device?
Have you attempted the troubleshooting steps mentioned by @WelshTerrier above?
Looking forward to hearing back.

Hi @Dinah and @BellNick

I am accessing email thru Bell webmail. I have used Firefox and MS Edge and recently downloaded Chrome.  Nothing changed the outcome.  I used Outlook and emails worked properly for gmail and old Bell email format.  I tried the steps by Welsh terrier and it did not work.  Finally recd response from JR2 and the suggestions worked perfectly even my email format is corrected and doesn't just look like a memo.

Thank you @JR2.  You just saved me a possible expensive visit to a computer shop.  Everything works fine now, even the email page itself now looks as it should with fonts etc.  It looked like a memo page previously.  It would be interesting to know how these settings were changed from what they were before.

Thanks again. Dinah

@JR2  Thank you for your further research & follow up. I should have provided this additional information in my original reply to @Dinah

You can make these changes if you are using either Microsoft Edge & Google Chrome as your Bell Webmail browser. These settings are not available in Safari, etc.

  1. Go to Settings > Mail > Uncheck > Insert original e mail text to reply". (Do this only if you do not wish to insert the original email text to the reply.)
  2. Check the box > Compose message in rich text format.

Please note: These mail settings are only required when using rich text format & are only available to change if you are using a browser in Windows 10 & 11.

Take care.
