How to assign a Pod to device.

Hi. I installed 2nd Generation wired Google Nest door bell. I have Hub 4000 with two Pods backed by 1.5 G connection speed. My door bell is getting connected with main hub (which is far away and with poor signal strength) instead of Pod which is very next to the door bell. Is there anyway, I can manually assign device to be connected with Pod instead of main router/hub?

The only way I can make this happen is to cut the power to the device near the pod and then turn it back on.  The issue is (if you reboot the modem or when first setting up the pods) is that the modem comes up first and then the pods connect.  So your device connects to the modem first.  I know cutting power to a wired doorbell is difficult and I can't recall if that one has battery as well in it).  In that case if there is a way to restart the doorbell that might accomplish the same thing.  Good luck!

I have a long and narrow two floor apartment, so...

  • This is what happens: Modem to Mini Pod 1 (Excellent) + Modem to mini pod 2 (Fair) + Modem to mini pod 3 (Poor)
  • My ideal state: Modem to Mini pod 1 > Mini pod 2 > Mini pod 3

Is there a way to set that up?
Because sometimes, it randomly happens, but the day after is always reset and not working again.

Hi there @osvaldouribe,
Thank you for reaching out to the Bell community.

Your Bell home Wi-Fi self optimizes to determine the best connection path. If you notice a poor connection, it may be necessary to relocate your pod. We recommend checking out the helpful troubleshooting article that we posted hereOpens in a new tab or window called Troubleshooting my Whole Home Wi-Fi pods.

Please check that out, and let the Community know if you need any further assistance.

This is the correct answer. Something needs to be done on Bell development side as the solutions presented here don’t really solve the issue consistently.

I believe one of the issues (like my case) is because it is trying to connect to a battery powered device (wi-fi camera). I believe that when camera goes to sleep to save battery any automatic optimization from Bell pods and modem is lost and process starts all over. Either we need a manual (consistent) override on the Bell Wi-Fi app or the automatic management should do better with battery powered devices (maybe keeping optimized connection saved on cache for long).

There are a few things to take into consideration when it comes to any mesh network, including these pods:

- How the pod is connected to the device.

- Number of devices to the pod.

- How many pods are using the same wireless backhaul band.

- Some other network related things.

What to remember is that the pod with the strongest signal strength, or the one closest by, does not mean it's the best overall connection to use based on the factors listed above, and some other factors.

Hi Bell. My case is similar. I have 4 PODs, the problem is that when I move from the basement to the first floor, where I am 2 m away from the modem, my laptop connects automatically to a POD in the second floor, therefore I am getting messages that my network quality is poor, cutting my calls, etc. How can I force the connection to the modem ?

It's a mesh setup, so you have no direct control on how the connections are made.

You can try moving your pods around, or in my opinion the best solution is to install a good third party Wireless AP using a wired LAN connection to the home hub.

It's what I did and it's perfect for me. Might not be perfect for everybody, but just something to consider.

Hi Nick,

Unfortunately that is not the always the case. I have a camera which used to connect to the hub despite a pod being next to it. The reliability was better when it was connecting to the pod closest to it. I rebooted, and it decided to connect to the pod that is 3 levels away, because that pod is wired, now the connection is really bad.
We need a way to manually override this setting, especially for static devices that don't move around.

I have Bell Fibe internet and I have 4 Bell Home Pods. The pods are spread out fairly evenly. I have a TV in the den that insists on connecting to the modem in the office (across the entire house and has poor signal strength at that distance) rather than a pod that is close by and has strong signal strength. Can I force it to connect to a closer pod absent using the Ethernet connection?

Good afternoon @Daniel14

Welcome to the Bell Community.

You are not able to assign devices to a specific pod. Please check out these Helpful repliesOpens in a new tab or window for a bit more information on how the pods connect, and some troubleshooting tips.

Before switching out the Hub 3000 to a Giga Hub due to hardware issues, when I move from room to room in the house, my Pixel phone would move to the nearest POD without any issues as the signal dropped from the previous POD.

I noticed now with the Giga Hub, the same is not happening, the Pixel phone is hanging onto the initial POD to the point the Wi-Fi connection is too low to work and doesn't move to a stronger POD signal. I have to drop the Wi-Fi on the Pixel and turn it on again to pick up the nearest POD.

Has anyone else noticed the same issue?

Hi

is there a way to make your pods discoverable with their own wifi name? I believe I did this with a previous account? This way you can have guests login to pods instead of giga-hub. Also my Bose sound bar picks up Interference when on my phone and on the same wifi.  if I can login to one pod and one hub I’m hoping that’ll solve the problem

It's a mesh network, so they will all carry the same configuration so your wireless devices can seemingly transition between pods.

They will carry the name of the wifi network you have configured in the home hub.
