How to assign a Pod to device.

Hi. I installed 2nd Generation wired Google Nest door bell. I have Hub 4000 with two Pods backed by 1.5 G connection speed. My door bell is getting connected with main hub (which is far away and with poor signal strength) instead of Pod which is very next to the door bell. Is there anyway, I can manually assign device to be connected with Pod instead of main router/hub?

Hi there @Salman
Thank you for your post and welcome to the Community.

Your device may not always connect to the pod that is closest to it. The network will determine the best connection based on a variety of factors, such as interference, traffic, bandwidth, etc.; thus you cannot assign a device to a pod or vice versa. The network is dynamic and can/will change based upon factors shared above.

While Bell Whole Home Wi-Fi determines the best connection, sometimes devices need some help connecting. Turning your device’s Wi-Fi off and back on may solve performance issues.

Rebooting your equipment, and turning Wi-Fi off/on may help. Check out this article Troubleshooting my Whole Home Wi-Fi podsOpens in a new tab or window under: My device doesn’t connect to the closest pod.

It's a mesh setup, so you have no direct control on how the connections are made.

You can try moving your pods around, or in my opinion the best solution is to install a good third party Wireless AP using a wired LAN connection to the home hub.

It's what I did and it's perfect for me. Might not be perfect for everybody, but just something to consider.

Is there any way to manually switch which devices are connected to a pod and/or hub. My TV/devices run slower because they’re connected to a weaker signal.

Excellent question and I'm having the same issue. Hopefully someone can answer it.

Hi there @GoBlackHawks
Thank you for your post and welcome to the Community.
Connection to the pods are automatic. You are unable to manually connect a device to a pod. The device will connect to the best connection it can find within your home (either modem or pod).

I have the exact same issue, my eufy door bell wont connect to the pod near to it with great signal strength, it rather connects to the modem which is way far from it because of which my bell stays offline / hard to access.
can someone help resolving this issue?

Hi there @Atif
Thank you for your post and welcome to the Community.
We would recommend resetting your modem and re-installing the pods. Moving the pod around to a different location may also help.
Looking forward to hearing back how that goes.

I recently installed Bell Fibe 3.0 gig, with a homehub 4000 and 2 pods.  Using the Bell Fibe app. I notice that the majority of my devices connect to the hub as opposed to the pods, even when the devices are located at the furthest point from the hub and right next to a pod.  Since my install (1 week ago), my fibe tv often drops for just a second (but does this multiple times a night).... Technical staff said it may be due to the high number of items connected to the hub (maybe 30 items).  The only reason there are 30 items connected to the hub is because some items are not connectimg to the nearer pod(s).  Is there a way to force items to connect to either a pod or the hub?  And would this seem like a plausible solution?

Hi BellNick,

I had a similar question (see other post within this section) - similar to other, my concern is that the bell hub is becoming overburdened with devices and causing slowness or wifi drops on more important items.  When I speak with Bell technical help, they keep telling me that I have too many items connected to the Hub - so that is why I have the pods.  The logic of "best connection" is fair, however, it seems that the Pod should be the best connection in some cases - for example, I have two identical smart devices in the bedroom (clocks), one keeps connecting to the Hub (about 40ft away), the other to the pod (which is just outside the room).  The one connected to the Pod works flawlessly with a strong connection.... the one connected to the hub frequently drops.

Can I use pods to hook up to my 2.4 camera?

These solutions don't solve the problems or really even directly address what they're trying to accomplish. Could you maybe confirm that you've submitted a ticket to the development team that customers are asking for a new feature? The ability to manually assign and lock which access point a device connects to should be a baseline feature. It's oversights like this that cause consumers to continue to be displeased with the general services provided.

My recommendation is to just buy a third party router mesh system. TP-Link or any other reputable brand will work better than the home hub and the pods. The pods themselves are great devices made by Plume however it the implementation and the Home Hub getting in the way. The HH4k is a bit better but it's still worth it to buy a third party.

Had the pods running for about a week.  Network self-optimizes nightly.  Currently, there are 12 devices connected by Wi-Fi on the Gigahub, 2 devices on one pod and 1 device on the other.  The devices running off the Gigahub are located all over the house.  Surely the network should be auto balancing the load?  Why wouldn’t devices that are physically closer to a pod be running off that pod?  Curious…

That's an interesting question. The pods and the Giga Hub determine best signal quality using their own balancing algorithm. You can see that using the Bell Wi-Fi app. The actual signal path is not linear or based on physical distance but is dependent upon signal strength. In my own setup, the best path, according to the app, shows a link to a pod at the far end of the house which then links to three pods closer to the modem. It works just fine.
