Issues with 5 gigabit card

I recently upgraded to a BrosTrend 5Gb PCIe Network Card and a 3-gigabit internet plan. However, I'm encountering an issue where my computer fails to connect to the internet when the network card's speed & duplex setting is on 5 Gbps Full Duplex. It works fine on 2.5 Gbps Full Duplex. I've ensured the network card has the latest drivers installed, and it's connected using a CAT 7 cable to a 10-gigabit port on my Gigahub. Is there a possible fix for this?

Just to add — the BE65 actually outperforms the BE75 in real-world use. The BE75’s only real perk is the 10Gb port, but it’s huge and not worth the upgrade. Stick with the BE65 Pro and save your money — the juice isn’t worth the squeeze. As for Wi-Fi, the Eero Pro 7 beats Deco in wireless performance, but the boost is only ~100Mbps. If you’re hitting 700Mbps on Wi-Fi 6, 800 won’t change your life. Haven’t tested Wi-Fi 7 yet — waiting for my kid to log off Xbox.

I’ve had a bit more luck — managed to push 2.5Gbps through a switch off the Eero Pro 7. Just saw your post — same boat here. Frustrating to spend this much and still deal with issues. Thanks for sharing.

Honestly, the Deco BE65 is more than enough. Losing 500Mbps on a 3Gbps line isn’t the end of the world. Sure, you might sacrifice a bit of future-proofing, but even 2.5Gbps is more than most people will ever need. In my own testing—running multiple TVs, gaming consoles, and computers—I was barely hitting 20% capacity. The truth is, a lot of people are overbuying just because the high-end gear is there, not because they actually need it. And hey, I get it—we all like bigger and better. I’m no different. But sometimes, practical wins.

I have exactly the same issue with Motherboard Asus Strix X870E which have a 5Gb Realtek RTL8126 network card, when I plugin the ethernet cable into the 10G port I don't get any IP address from modem "Giga Hub". To get an Ip address I need to move to 2.5Gb speed & duplex settings.

Thanks for your comment. Can you clarify, please? Is your 5 Gb network card a separate, plug-in card or the built-in network port on the motherboard? There are known issues with some 5 Gb networks cards not negotiating and dropping to 2.5 Gb for a connection. Your identifying the card and drivers is helpful. Your situation is why I suggest avoiding 5 Gb cards and ports entirely and going to 10 Gb cards, if your budget permits, even though they are more expensive.

The network card is built-in network port on the motherboard, it's not a separate card. The driver I'm using is the driver provided by Asus ( screenshot below). Thanks

That's true, and with the Pro 6E I was getting 2.5 without issue. However, I've been wanting to upgrade to something better for a while (with WiFi7), so I was hoping the Pro 7 would work - sadly not. But the Max 7 with its 10G port is working great at least!

It's now nearly three months later and we have yet to receive a meaningful update or resolution.

We understand that some issues can take time to investigate and resolve, but given the length of time that has passed without any follow up, it's difficult not to feel overlooked. Could you please provide a status update or at least let us know whether progress is still being made?

At this point, there is nothing new. There is no new Giga Hub firmware beyond 2.13. The flaw is also possibly with the Realtek drivers, which can't negotiate more than a 2.5 Gb connection. A short term option would be to put in a 10 Gb network card.

The issue is not coming from the Realtek drivers, because I have a friend in France who's using exactly the same Motherboard as mine, and it negotiate the 5GB connection with his Modem Router of his ISP without any problem. So the issue is coming from the BELL Giga Hub.

Bell please fix your Giga Hub and release an update to address the issue!

Thanks for your comment. I appreciate your frustration. As I said, the latest Giga Hub firmware is 2.13. We have no idea in this forum when any new firmware will be released. When it is, we will let you know.

There's no guarantee a firmware update can fix this, as it might be a hardware limitation on the giga hub.

I have hardware myself that can only connect at 1 or 10 Gbps.

Bell sells 3Gbps and 6Gbps services, so they are obligated to ensure proper functionality of the equipment. Otherwise, it would be false advertising! Hopefully, a fix will be deployed soon.

To be clear, Bell has 3Gb and 8 Gb profiles. If you have those speeds at the modem dashboard, anything beyond is the customer’s responsibility. As I said before, the optimum solution is a 10 Gb card if a customer is on the higher profiles.
