Bell coverage in Kingston

I live in a suburban area in the West End of Kingston.  An area that has many residents and schools etc.  I get 1 bar of service in a non-mobile situation.  Standing stock still in my living room I cannot have a voice call that is clear and not choppy.  Just tried sending a JPG on SMS (not iMessage) and it has failed three times in a row.

I am a bermuda triangle of service.

Anyone else have a similar experience?

Hey there @tproosevelt

Welcome to the Community and thanks for your post.

As the Community is a peer to peer assistance channel, it will be hard to determine the cause. However we will be happy to help wherever we can.

As you've mentioned "not iMessage", we can assume you're using an iPhone?

To get started some clarification will be needed;

  • What IOS are you on?
  • Which network setting are you on (5G Auto, 5G On or LTE)?
  • Are you using a Bluetooth device or only your phone?
  • Have you tried to simply restart your phone to see if it helps?
  • Is the issue only happening in a specific location or everywhere?
  • Have you contacted our technical support team to open a ticket?
  • Is your Wi-Fi calling active on your phone?
  • What other troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?

Looking forward to hearing back from you.

I have a Bell mobility plan and I get TERRIBLE cell reception in my condo. Even when I step out onto my balcony, the calls cut in and out, so it's not a matter of cement walls blocking signals. A neighbour of mine mentioned there's a Bell tower that's out of service in the area, which is why I don't get good reception - I'm not sure if that's true. I'm just incredibly frustrated with the fact that I can't make or receive calls without the frustrating, "hello, can you hear me?" back-and-forth every single time, in my own home. Does anyone else in Kingston (west end) have this problem?

I just switched over to Bell Mobility today, and I’m having the same issue.  Very frustrating and annoying.  I’m starting to regret changing carriers.

I have the same issue. Recently moved to Bell and the data is terrible. Most of the times its not even HSPA+ speeds. I have two lines and both have the same issue.

I was aksed to get a replacment SIM and that did not solve anything.

Thank you for your question. Unfortunately without specifics such as phone, location and signal it’s almost impossible to comment further.

I have a Samsung s22+. The location is Kingston ON, and surrounding areas.

The signal is LTE or 5G shown on the phone but the speed is like 2G or 3G at max.

Thank you for the clarification. What signal is shown for your connection? 5G, LTE.

Thank you Jen74.  I was thinking about switching from Telus to Bell but it looks like there's no point because the Bell signal is just as bad as the Telus signal.  Maybe it's time to switch to Rogers.  My daughter uses Rogers and she has no issues.  If Bell wants to keep it's Kingston customers and get new customers they have to improve the towers in Kingston.  Hey Bell please show Kingston the same respect you do to other municipalities like Belleville.  The signal in Belleville is up to 3 bars or more.

I'm new to this Community so please redirect if I'm posting in the wrong place. I have a consistently terrible time with being heard when I make a call on my cell phone (iPhone 15). I had the problem with my i13 and had hoped the new phone would solve it. I live in central/west Kingston, in a bungalow in a residential area. I'm often sitting stationary, near the patio doors. I usually only have 1 bar of strength. I've had problems in the middle of calls to resolve problems, when suddenly they can't hear me and end the call! It's a consistent and very frustrating problem that I've tried to resolve by restarting the phone, confirming my settings and even taking it to the Apple store. It's not my phone or my settings. Short of changing carriers what else do you recommend I try?!

Good morning, @AImeeA. Welcome to the Bell Community, and thank you for your post.

For the Community to be better able to assist, we invite you to review the questions asked earlier by my colleague Antgio earlier in the thread. The more details you can provide, the better for us to help with. 🙂

Looking forward to hearing back from you. Best wishes.

  • What IOS are you on? IOS v 18.0
  • Which network setting are you on (5G Auto, 5G On or LTE)? 5G and LTE
  • Are you using a Bluetooth device or only your phone? my iPhone
  • Have you tried to simply restart your phone to see if it helps? Many times!
  • Is the issue only happening in a specific location or everywhere? Anywhere in the house
  • Have you contacted our technical support team to open a ticket? When I asked they said it was likely due to cell tower locations or lack thereof
  • Is your Wi-Fi calling active on your phone? Yes
  • What other troubleshooting steps have you tried so far? I tried everything I could find in the Bell Troubleshooting suggestions with no luck, which is why I'm here now as a last resort before changing carrier

I look forward to a response. I'm hoping there's something I can do so that this frustration can end! It's hugely problematic! At this point my only option may be going back to a landline!

Thanks for all the details, @AImeeA.

I am a Real Estate Agent my area covers from Prince Edward County to Gananoque and including Kingston, Bath and North of the 401. I name these areas because each part of this wide swath of Eastern Ontario have many areas that the cell service disappears and calls drop also GPS doesn't connect. Yesterday while doing a tour my phone repeatedly let me down meanwhile my passenger using a different provider was talking texting doing business emails as well as helping with navigation. other than being incredibly embarrassing it was very inconvenient. I switched from Rogers but am planning to return now.

For instance along the shoreline of Lake Ontario by the Ontario Hydro plant before you get to Bath is dead for about 10 minutes

County Rd 8  to Napanee and much of 41 North of Napanee have multiple dead spots

Lots of areas in Prince Edward County

North Of Kingston in various parts up near Buck lake to name a few.

None of these areas are unpopulated and they are often commuter routes

My own home we had to get rid of Bell hub and switch to Starlink for any kind of consistency for internet service. Bell has been getting progressively worse ans time goes on.
