Hey there @Fergus2005,

Welcome to the Community and thanks for your post.

This could be a result of a few different things. I've added a few possibilities and/or tips below;

  • In order to make a international call, you first need to make sure that the phone number is dialed correctly starting with +1-***-***-****.
  • If you don't have a compatible phone to work on the local network where you are, you will not be able to make the call.
  • If your network connection is unstable, you may need to make your phone manually search for a local network via your network settings (this step may need to be repeated until you find a stable connection).
  • If you've placed any kind of suspension on your account while you're traveling, no calls can be made.

Hope this helps.

So I have the 150Gb Canada/US/Mexico plan. I have made calls to Canada with success, except when I call the Bell support line, I get a Quebec error message. (why?)

The problem is I am not receiving any calls from Canada. Two people have tried calling, one from Winnipeg and one from Toronto. I have roaming set to "on". When they call from Canada they get a busy signal or a Mexican error message.

This is very frustrating because I specifically switched from Virgin to Bell to be able to receive text and phone from Canada. And I can't seem to connect to the Bell support line. Can someone from Bell please respond? I see from the community that I am not the only one having this issue. Thanks.

Hi there, @KnowBird. Welcome to the Bell Community, and thank you for your post.

We'd recommend reviewing the tips provided earlier in the thread to try and troubleshoot any issues you may still be having. Manually searching for and selecting a network would be the best first step to be taking.

As for calling Bell Support, do make sure you are entering the number correctly with the whole dialing code. This includes the "+" symbol - if you're unsure, you can add this symbol from your keypad by holding the "0" key.

Let us know if you were still in need of assistance.

Many thanks for your reply. BellKris. I was able to get through to a support person named Jerald on the Bell mobility chat. He was able to explain the source of the problem. Apparently, even though I have the new Canada USA Mexico wide plan, people from Canada cannot call my 416 number unless they have long distance - international calling features on their phone. I thought this was strange since from Canada people are simply dialing a 416 number. But it doesn't work that way. I purchased the Canada USA Mexico plan specifically to be able to receive calls from Canada. I couldn't see any information about this limitation in the marketing information and description of the plan. If it's somewhere in the documentation, which I doubt, it's well hidden. I confirmed that for example even if people dial 011 before calling my number the call cannot be completed. Can you confirm? Thanks again.

Hi there, @KnowBird. It's good to hear you were able to find out what's going on.

This is correct, and is essentially an extension of how long distance calling is calculated within Canada. What is considered to be a "local" call is not exclusively determined by your area code, but by your physical location. Just as an example within Canada, if you're visiting Vancouver and a friend of yours back in Toronto with a 416 area code, this would still be considered long distance even if you both have the 416 area code.

This process extends to international locations as well, but with the additional barrier of some users potentially having a restriction on their ability to place international calls. This is most often done as a measure of fraud prevention, or a user may have asked it be added themselves to prevent accidental calling charges.

Do bear in mind that as the Community is a peer-to-peer support channel, we would be unable to speak to the specifics of your friend's or family member's accounts, doubly so if they're with another provider. If they are Bell users, they can check under My Plan in their MyBell profileOpens in a new tab or window to confirm if they have any restrictions on international calling in place. If they do see a restriction, they'll need to contact Customer ServiceOpens in a new tab or window at that time for assistance in having it removed.

Hope this helps clear up any confusion for you. 🙂

Very helpful, thank you @BellKris. Much appreciated.

I am travelling in Mexico. I cannot call Canada from my Bell mobile phone.  I have tried with the automatic connection to Telcel and with internet calling and neither will complete. I have tried + plus the number, 001, 011 and direct with just the 1.  Nothing will connect. I also cannot receive voicemails or emails unless I am on a VPN connected to Canada. Suggestions?

I tried the standard responses before seeking your assistance and nothing has worked. My automatic connection is to Telcel and when I try manual connection there are no other options where I am. Is Telcel one of Bell’s partners here? Why won’t the connection with internet dialing work? When on the internet I can surf but not get email through Bell. I can get mail through Bell Mail but not through Apple Mail on my phone or IPad.

I'm on the Canada/US/Mexico Plan, and I'm in Mexico. The network used is Telcel (automatic setting). To call a Canadian number from here I just dial normally - no exit code required.  I can't help you with the other issues, sorry.

I have your Canada US Mexico unlimited plan. How do I dial a Mexican phone number from my phone while in Mexico?

Try this:

Dial the Canada exit code 01 (or hold the 0 to insert a plus sign +)

Dial the Mexico country code 52

Dial the 10-digit Mexican number
