Incorrect number showing up when texting

Why is my phone number showing up incorrectly for the recipients of my texts and how do I change it?  I just joined Bell a week ago, received a temporary phone number, and got my existing phone number ported over. Now when a new person receives a text from me it shows that it is still coming from my temporary phone number that shouldn't exist anymore.

For me it was in the settings for RCS texting.  It required me to input the phone number manually, I also asked Bell to correctly register the phone, as it isn't one they sell.

I am having the same problem

Can you help me fix this as well? I'm having the same problem 😞

 This worked

You turn off RCS chat in message settings
Then go to settings, go Apps, all apps
Go to carrier services and go to storage and cache and clear it
Then go back to app listing, find messages and clear cache
Restart phone
Go to messages and turn RCS back on

I'm having the same issue when we ported my boyfriend's number. I have called at least 10 times and no resolve

Good Day.

Please have a look at the following. Hopefully it will be of assistance to you.

Turn RCS chats on or off

Important: If you do not turn off RCS chats in Settings to stop sending and receiving RCS messages when you remove a SIM card from your device, RCS chats may continue to work for up to 14 days.

  1. On your device, open Google Messages
  2. At the top right, tap your profile picture or icon  Messages settings.
  3. Tap RCS chats.
  4. Turn RCS chats on or off.

Tips:

  • If you can't find "RCS chats," tap Chat features.
  • If you’re not connected, tap Verify your number.
  • You can also use the Google Messages deactivation web portal to turn off RCS chats.

Use the deactivation portal if you:

  • Used your phone number with an old phone and don't receive text messages on your new phone.
  • Lose or break your phone but still have your phone number.
  • Change messaging apps on the same phone and aren't receiving messages.

Turn on RCS chats in Google Messages - Google Messages

Take care.

i tried the same procedure... it only works when i turn off the RCS but when i put it back, the temporary number appears again

The carrier services app is not accessible on the galaxy s22. Not sure what to do.

Hi there, @eighteen67. Welcome to the Bell Community, and thanks for your post.

In the case of Samsung phones, Samsung has its own method by default instead of using Google's Carrier Services. As such, could you try the following steps?

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Tap Networks
  3. Tap Mobile Networks
  4. Tap Networks operators
  5. Disable Select automatically, then re-enable. This should reset your network preferences.

Otherwise, you can also download Carrier Services manually via the Play StoreOpens in a new tab or window and try following the instructions previously provided in this thread.

Give that a try, and let us know if you were still in need of assistance afterwards.

Hi @BellKris,

Could you please reach me over a private message to assist with the wrong text message number. I've followed all the steps outlined by the other users, but nothing helps. Thanks a lot in advance!

Can you please assist me with the temporary number issue as well? I recently switched to Bell and my temporary number is still showing under RCS. I have followed all the trouble shooting suggestions.
