I was called by someone claiming to be from Bell. They offered me a killer deal on my existing package as a loyalty reward. They knew everything about me. My account information, phone number, email, the amount of my bill, the date I paid my last bill and how much I paid etc. They offered to knock a whopping $50 off my existing bill.
They sent me an email from bell.ca ...
It wasn't until they asked me for the expiry date of my drivers license that I sensed that something was fishy. I hung up and phoned bell. Bell told me that it was a scam. I have changed my password on my account .. but I'm concerned that something nefarious could be done to my account .. I have been checking it daily for unwanted changes or charges.
My son got the exact same call the next day.
Has anyone else gotten this call and how did this person have so much information about me (Bell related billing and account information).

You did the right thing! Thank you for sharing this on the Bell Community Forum.
Never share anything with anyone that you do not know. Bell will never ask you for any personal information via an unexpected telephone call, email, text, etc. such as passwords, PIN numbers, drivers licence number, banking or credit card information.
I wish I could give you a simple solution to this expanding problem. It is very, very frustrating to say the least. It is like trying to plug the leak in the dike with one finger & then the water pops out in another spot! These calls keep coming & coming. There needs to be an all encompassing Canadian National telecommunications strategy set up that monitors, polices & establishes guidelines in terms of what calls can go though or are blocked.
These calls need to be stopped before they reach you; not by you trying to block one here or there.
You can add your number to the Canadian Do Not Call List.
You can also Contact the Fraud Reporting System (Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre) or call toll-free at 1-888-495-8501. You can also file a report of a misleading or deceptive marketing practice with the Competition Bureau using the online complaint form.
If you receive spam through Bell Webmail: Click "Mark as spam". This will ensure the team managing Bell email services will note this so they can investigate and block it. Send a copy of that email to abuse@bell.ca.
There are all kinds of ides & tips out there. None of them seem to work in stopping these fraudsters.
When you figure this one out.... patent the idea. You will make millions if it works.
Take care.

My question is .. how do they know all this information if they don't have access to the Bell system
Has the Bell account records system been hacked?
The caller I dealt with knew way too much about me .. what was scary was he knew the exact date I paid my last bill (and I never pay it on the due date) and how much I paid .. I don't always pay the same amount.

How do they know? Once they have access to your system directly or indirectly they have you in their grip!
Have a look at the web link that I have attached. There is a lot of valuable information included. Please share this with family & friends. That will be the first step in eliminating fraud.
Do not give anything out to anyone you do not know! Do not open web links, unknown texts, divulge personal information on the telephone or through the web, email, etc.

I too recieved such a call, offering 30% discount due to my 'loyalty'. What was most troublesome is that the 'agent' was somehow getting Bell to generate legitimate 'Bell" authenticated emails to me comfirming my username as well as Bell sending me text with a confirmation number that I had to repeat to confirm my identity. I know this because I checked for Bell's security certificate within my email. How are these fraudsters managing to do that?
Needless to say, I changed my username and password since that call. I've reported the telephone numbers they called from as 'spam or fraud'.
Since I received calls on both my mobilty phones can't help but wonder if there's been a data breach at Bell that we aren't hearing about, as of yet. Feel free to contact me directly to discuss.

I got a similar call today to offer me either 50% discount or a free apple watch if I sign up another line for 2 years. I gave them my email address and the verification code message to my phone (which I later learned is the procedure from Bell to reset passwords). I did not realize it was a scam call until I got an email from Bell that my account password had been changed. I went to reset it after 15 minutes, as well as reset my user name, name, and the security questions. Did anything happened to your account after?

Nothing further happened. I think I changed things before they could do anything. I did notice I had an expired CC on file. If the scammers were after that, they were out of luck. I removed it just the same. I too, changed username, password and security questions shortly after their call.

Just hang up! There is no reason for you to talk to fraudsters. They want to talk to you. They want to sell you something, steal something or add you to their live contact list! Next thing you know, you will be getting more & more Robo calls, etc.
When in doubt .......... just hang up. Do not talk to them.
Fraud.... pure fraud! Phishing, etc. etc. Remember one thing .... Do not give out anything to anyone you do not know or trust! Do not share personal information. Do not open links or messages in Emails or text messages!
Reputable companies such as Bell, banks, utilities & highly regarded services & institutions do not send you messages or make calls such as this! They do not call you asking to provide personal information. Hang up! Report the fraud! & Delete!
Caution is the better part of valor! STAY SAFE & BE CAREFUL!
Thank you for sharing this with the Bell Community Forum.
Take care.

Just this week I received calls regarding special promo. The initial caller was very well informed on product detail and then said there would be an account manager calling to finalize. My spidey sense tingled during the call and hung up and then reached out to Bell after to enquire. Nothing was on my account but the one number they called from was apparently a bell company number. The individual called back and sent thru offer which is showing on blank word document. I'm pretty sure this is some type of elaborate scam. I only provided DOB and unfortunately Bell couldn't do much. Just FYI not sure what the end result would be with minimal information but keeping an eye on my finances etc just to be safe

Just an additional heads up. I had a phone arrive after all this and I didn't order one. I have contacted Bell Mobility and they advised its a fraud where people order thru Bell send to you and then keep calling and get you to ship the phone back to an address unrelated. Result is they get a new phone and you end up paying for it. Very disheartening what people will sink to

What can I say! In this day and age is there anything sacred any more?. What ever happened to honesty, integrity & trust? What is the worth of any human being if they lie, steal & cheat from their fellow man?
My apologies for preaching. Need I say more......
I wish I could once again offer up to you some form of permanent solution. I can not. Just be vigilant with eyes & ears out front.
Thank you for sharing this example of fraud & theft with all of the Bell Community Forum members
Have a great weekend!
Take care

I just got a phone call from Bell saying that my bill for the next 24 months will be 50% off. They had most of my information I think this 500% off is a fraud. Can anyone confirm this.
