Are taxes on your monthly bill supposed to be calculated based on where you live in Canada? I live in Nunavut where GST is 5% but I am paying 15% GST.

Hey there @Jenn2 ,
Welcome to the community and thanks for your post.
The community being a peer to peer assistance channel, we do not have access to your account to determine the type of account or location of your services. However, here are some general information for you;
Pricing and taxes
All our prices are in Canadian dollars.
Depending on how you pay, your purchases may be taxed differently.
- If you use a credit card to make your purchase, your taxes will be based on the shipping address for products, and the billing address for services (the province where the service is provided).
- If your request that your purchases be billed to a Bell Canada account, they will be taxed according to the province where the account is based.
Let the community know if you have more questions.

Good Day & Welcome to the Bell Community Forum.
The tax rate in Ontario is 13% for Bell mobility as well all other Bell services.
Are you trying to calculate the charges on a SmartPay 2 yr. contract? Taxes are calculated based on the full price of the smartphone and are paid each month with your Bell Mobility device payments. Please refer to your Mobility agreement on MyBell for the specific details.
Bell is required to remit the HST on the full price of the phone when it is sold. Your monthly payment includes the amount you financed and your plan cost plus the HST on your plan. HST is calculated & charged on the full retail price of the mobile phone at the time of purchase. If you chose to pay down a portion & finance the remainder, taxes on the financed device amount are payable with your monthly device payments.13.0% HST is charged on the full price of the device. Your deposit is subtracted from the purchase price + the taxes leaving you with the outstanding balance owing. Your monthly finance payments & mobility plan are also taxable.
For further assistance, please call 1 800 667-0123 or dial *611 from any Bell mobile device.
The rate for taxable supplies depends on the province or territory. The current rates are:
- 5% (GST) in Alberta,
- 5% (GST) British Columbia, Manitoba, + 7% (PST)
- 5% (GST) Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and Yukon
- 5% (GST) Saskatchewan + 6% (PST)
- 5% (GST) Quebec + 9.975 (PST)
- 13% (HST) in Ontario
- 15% (HST) in New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia (until March 31,2025, 14% (HST) in Nova Scotia on or after April 1, 2025)
Take care.

I’m a bell customer, I have moved to Edmonton Alberta in August 2024. I already change the address online. I would like to ask the bill still calculating the Ontario Taxes rate charge. Please help me to solve the problem. Thank you.

I am an Ontario resident and always had a 613 area code. Still live in Ottawa. Never moved. Why I am being charged QST?

Good Day & Welcome to the Bell Community Forum.
@LionGirl Thank you for reaching out and posting your question. I would like to answer your question, but I am unable to do so with the limited information that you have provided. We do not have access to your account & billing details on the community forum.
I will assume that your service address is within the province of Ontario. Are you being charged QST on your monthly bill by Bell? Has this been an ongoing and recurring problem?
Have you made any purchases from Bell while visiting in the province of Quebec? E.g. Bell store, etc.
Each portion of your itemized printed bill shows the individual tax for that specific service. E.g. TV, Internet, Home Phone, Mobility, etc.
If the tax on your monthly bill is incorrect, please contact Bell Customer Service, Billing & Orders at: 1 866 310-BELL (2355) or dial #611 from any Bell mobile device & they will make the appropriate adjustments.
Take care.
