Bell Satellite 6500 receiver Search window keeps popping up when i use the guide

For about a week now whenever i use the guide on my 6500 receiver a search window pops up (never saw it before). I dont know why. once it pops up, the navigation using the remote does not work. It keeps the cursor on the search box and i cannot get it to close. The resolution of the weekend guide issues has not corrected this issue. The only thing i can do is cycle power on the receiver and then enter the channel i want to go to without using the guide. How can i deactivate the search function?

I tried that but it did not work. What did work was I tried a different remote. With that remote the problem did not occur. I then changed the batteries in the original remote and it did not occur again. It is now resolved. Seems like it was the remote all along.

I have had a strange issue like that with one of my 9241... in about the same time frames as mentioned.  In my case, hitting the guide gives me a guide page BUT when I try to select one of the current time slot programs, the receiver jumps to the PVR menu page to asking for me to set a timer as if it thinks that I am in another time slot.   I could never actually select a current time program to watch from the guide.   Related if I used the browse right arrow button to bring up the "mini banner" for the channel at the bottom, and moved the channel to another channel number to look at its "mini guide" and try to select it, it again would take me to the pvr menu page to select a timer.   The only way that I could get out of this instance, was to use the browse left arrow button before selecting the channel listed on the mini guide banner.

I tried a "power button reset" which worked for a brief while but then the receiver eventually fell back into the same state.  Lastly, I plugged the plug on the receiver and left it unplugged for about 1 hour.   Plugged it back in and now it is currently OK.

Not sure how the unit got / gets corrupted but I would give the "remove power" a try for a while to see if that helps.

I have the same problem with my receiver as well and did the same troublshooting.  Still does it.

I just received an "interesting email" from Bell about "an update to your Satellite Service"... hmmm

The interesting part is that they indicated that they had an issue with the on-screen guide and that it has been now fixed / addressed.   No real additional information as to what it actually was but maybe this "fix" is broad enough that it might have addressed the issues discussed herein.   Hopefully, it has.   My remote and system that was impacted as mentioned is still working correctly so whatever was done seems to be working at this point.

Hi. @budwich

Thank you for the update & feedback that you have provided to the members the Bell Community Forum. Let us know if you experience any other issues.

Sometimes a quick fix may be just doing a full power off, rebooting a receiver or even changing the batteries in the remote control.

Take care.
